  1. I was hit by a car (it drove straight through a give way) two days ago, I'd like to say a big thank you to all who turned up and helped. I didn't get any names at the time but there was a fire crew, a couple of off-duty paramedics, a police officer and some unnamed members of the public. To the young lady with glasses - thank you for stopping to help, a few people had already walked past just staring, Thank you for having the mindfulness to gather details (and my belongings from the road). To Chris and partner and the fire crew - thank you for stopping and helping, to have emergency services attend (purely as a coincidence) was reassuring and helped greatly There was a young chap in a dark car who helped to block off traffic with his car, and also there was an off duty GP - thank you and thanks for staying with me all that time Finally thanks to the police officer who turned up, the impatient traffic were trying to push through and I don't know how he kept his cool! If you were one of these people and you read this, please say hi and take credit where it's due. If anyone knows who the young lady with glasses was, please let me know.
  2. There's a political spectrum, on both sides (right and left) the scale is generally referred to as leaning, moderate, far and extreme. I'd say I'm left leaning, to moderate left. The mob intimidation, hateful & aggressive screaming, verbal and physical assaults aren't typical behaviour of the moderate.
  3. Alchresearch has a point, over the last decade the far left have (sadly) become increasingly similar to the far right in tactics and attitude (especially in the U.S.), while the right have exploited this and often are the more rationally behaved in these situations.
  4. Thanks for that, picked one up. Will come in handy as an IP cam
  5. I voted yes, it's a good thing. People who don't mind what happens to their body after death might not make the effort to opt in under the current system, but people who feel strongly that they don't want to donate will make the effort to opt out if it changes.
  6. I can recommend Black Dragon Karate also, my 6 year old's been going there for a while now and he's really taken to it, it's developed his focus and concentration as well as increased his coordination. The guys there are great at teaching kids as well as adults.
  7. Hi, firstly many thanks to all our happy customers over the last few years who have recommended us on here. Due to more commitment on another (bigger) business venture, neither myself or Rob can dedicate the time required to keep G-Tech open. We considered keeping it open but feel it would require too much attendance that we can't give now. If you need to contact us the email account will be active for at least the next 12 months, as will the website messenger. Thankyou once again, Gareth & Rob
  8. Hi.. First, a standard flywheel is a large heavy steel disc, one side is connected to your engine (which turns it) the other side has a flat faced surface which presses against the clutch friction plate. It has a large, thin ring-gear around it's circumference, your starter motor engages with these teeth and turns it to start the engine. The clutch friction plate is sandwiched between the pressure plate and the flywheel. The friction plate drives the gearbox. When the whole clutch assembly is pressed together you get "drive" to the gearbox. Image here. On a vehicle that uses a standard flywheel, the friction plate usually has springs in it, as seen in the image above. This is to help absorb the impact when you release the clutch (biting point) and dampen "chatter" while the engine is running. A dual mass flywheel is a large heavy steel disc, within a larger heavy steel disc, with a spring loaded mechanism providing shock absorption between the two (image here)The friction plate used with these types of flywheel tends to have no springs (image here) On some vehicles, you can buy a conversion kit which consists of a single mass flywheel and a sprung clutch kit. The wording "friction surface" can be confusing, in general within the automotive industry the friction plate is referred to as having the "friction material" but technically, all four faces/surfaces involved are "friction surfaces". When a dual mass flywheel develops a fault, it is usually that the spring mechanism is worn, causing excessive movement (rattling/vibration) OR the clutch has worn through and damaged the steel surface of the flywheel. It is usually classed as "wear & tear". Replacing a dual mass flywheel and clutch is never a cheap job I'm afraid.
  9. Hi Mammybear, just a quick piece of advice before you have the work done... The 1.6 engines are prone for the dephaser pulley failing. Have you noticed any rattling from the engine when starting it up? Usually it quietens down within seconds but you will have noticed it if it is making this horrible sound! If the answer is yes, then it would be wise to have this replaced at the same time because it shouldn't cost any more in terms of labour. The part itself can be quite pricey though If you need any advice or a price you can call or send an instant message through our website. Thanks Rimrunner
  10. Hi Jamesy, on most Ibiza's the easiest way to fit the rear shoe assembly is to remove the hub. It's a single nut (32mm I think, but may be bigger) then the hub should just slide off, be careful not to get any grit or dirt inside the hub. Now you can assemble the spings and shoes and just fit them straight on the back-plate. When they are secure, you need to tighten the hub nut to 70Nm then a further 30 degrees with a bar. Be careful not to overtighten by jumping on the bar as some DIY mechanics tend to when a torque wrench isn't available! It's always recommended to use a new hub nut also when possible. Leave the shoes unadjusted when putting the drums on, adjust with a pointed tool or punch afterwards, through one of the bolt holes. Don't forget to tap the hub centre cap back on.
  11. Trev your inbox is full, I've tried sending you a PM with a price and some advice.
  12. This man is a good friend of mine. After a motorcycle accident years ago, he has faced many obstacles, all the time managing to stay positive. He has since married a great woman and raised a family. None of this has been easy, those of us with our own families/children sometimes find it difficult and stressful, but we tend to take our lives for granted, think how much harder it is if you don't have the use of your limbs. Needless to say this mindless act of vandalism will make life even more difficult for him and his family. This happened near Halfway last night (5th November), the vehicle was a black Peugeot Expert. Little ****s like these often brag about the things they've done and word tends to get around. If anybody has any information PLEASE contact the police, no matter how small a detail it may be. Apparently there were 4 other vehicles also destroyed. There is a photo showing the extent of the damage here.
  13. I've actually got an old Gamecube memory card sat in a drawer at home that you can have for free if you can't find one.
  14. I don't know for sure but from seeing what paint stripper does to latex or nitrile gloves, I should imagine they would be containing water. Stripper weakens and splits latex and other rubbers in seconds. Still, it's very dangerous to be throwing ANYTHING at moving cars!
