  1. My definition would be someone who knows that he doesnt know everything but knows where to go to find it.
  2. Source Sky News Glasgow and Sheffield topped the politeness survey, which was carried out by supermarket chain Somerfield. Sheffield has been rated the most polite city in England according to the above poll. Just shows that in spite of all the complaining we hear about people, Sheffielders still have a lot to offer to the rest of the country in terms of good manners
  3. The incident happened when his class was split into two groups. Jordan's group were drawing but he wanted to keep playing with his Play-Doh. "He wouldn't listen to his teacher and he just kicked off - he took a swing at one teacher and tried to bite another one. It was a bad incident, but why exclude him straight away? He's only five for Christ's sake," Ian said. Ian said Jordan had a troubled past and had spent some time in care. "He does have behaviour problems and it's possible he suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder. But the school said that was OK, that they could cope. Now they seem to be running away from the situation. "Now I'm having to keep him busy at home. At times he can get really mardy, he can't concentrate and he loses interest in things very quickly. We really need him back in school as soon as possible," Ian added. The above article from the Star features a parent bemoaning the fact that their child has been excluded at the age of 5. My question is what on earth do they expect after a child slaps a teacher and tries to bite another one just because he was told to do something he didn't want to do?
  4. Thanks to all for the info. Sounds a perfect night- a few beers, Jarvis and a Crispy Duck (I don,t mean the wife who I am taking)
  5. At risk of sounding like an old fart, can someone pls give directions to Plug. Also any good pubs/ restaurants nearby? Thanks
  6. I am not talking about whether or not life is made difficult for drivers. I am concerned at an apparent inability to put together a reasoned, cogent response to a range of opportunities. Our Council and its employed officers are supposed to ably and professionally represent the City of Sheffield when tendering or responsing to opportunities and initiatives that are open to the City. My concern is that thay are not doing this.
  7. SHEFFIELD has lost out on a potential multi-million pound transport grant from Government because its plans for tackling the city's worsening congestion crisis are just not good enough. Council bosses are facing up to a potential £2 million plus shortfall in what it can spend because South Yorkshire's Local Transport Plan was rated a disappointing "fair" instead of "good" or "excellent." Under the rules that means less cash will be given to Sheffield for roads, signals and public safety. This year the city will have £14 million to spend on various highways schemes - but it could have been much more. In its damning indictment of the city's strategy, Department of Transport (DfT) bosses said of South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan: "The plan does not set out a convincing approach to tackling current and emerging congestion problems." It added the authority simply wasn't mapping out exactly how it was going to get people out of their cars and back onto public transport. What on earth is going on with this Council? Casino/Snow Mountain/ Roads. Regardless of opinions as to whether or not Sheffield should be applying for these things, surely the Council should be adopting a professional approach to its applications. 8. Forget the last post. Have a meal but no pints and congrats on both!
  9. Set up a savings account asap. Transfer the money into there for "safe keeping" and to say to the bank that you have kept it separate from other funds in your account. You might as well get a few days interest on it. Then when the bank want their money bank simply let them have the original total and hopefully you have made enough to go out for a pint or two.
  10. Imagine a stag/hen night in Manchester. Visit the bars etc then on to the Casino.Money for hotels, shops, bars, taxis etc. People will go somewhere different for a change. It is one more "attraction"
  11. Breaking News! Sheffield loses out to Manchester in the Casino. St Pauls hotel sold on one year after completion. Council decline to say how much was paid by the original developer for the land purchased. Somewhat reinforces the points made.
