  1. yep baiting store dicks is great fun I find the quickly walking off but being 'too slow' and then getting seen putting something in a pocket is great fun esp if you are in a multilevel dept store and you then wander round with pace using lifts stairs etc only to go abnd pay or put it back,, ah the days
  2. does any one know exactly what constitutes 'deckchair rearrangement'? nice term by the way. as it seems the general method is bumps on the road but not say, lolipop ladies, bridges or barriers or better road markings. maybe the council should think about following the govt method of putting all cash in a pile and spending it as appropite?
  3. so, they can only spend it on traffic calming measures, next year they get the same and spend it all, then next year and next simply for the sake of not having it. The'll put how many measures in? it resembles a rollercoaster these days, and im not talking nemisis I'm thinking the grand national from blackpool. Theres no good reason for allowing a road like gleadless rd to be left asis where its so bumpy and lopsided next to a forty foot drop and on a bus route, and to leave it in such a bad state -for,3,4 5 9+ years so thats not blameable on the weather- and then put speed bumps on a road like eastbank after thhey move thhe school away from it. Then you've got the travisty of high green, penistone rd, oh whats the point %75 of roads in sheff are abysmal. hey but look on the bright side park hill flats are having x amount of £millions spent to polish that turd.
  4. "SHE sits surrounded by top-of-the-range flat-screen tellies, laptop computers, games consoles and two high-tech gaming chairs. But single mum Pam Bainb..." No she doesn't she has a low end to crap telly a so so low end laptop and thats quite probably being generous in the scheme of things. she's clearly quite thick , I work as hard as someone on £50k... blah bla, and she is as deluded as the sun is, she has top of the range nothing, and is probably Xamount of pounds in debt to get the small and now commonplace items. anyone watched idiocracy?
  5. the same merrygoround arguments as always, art and crime you can have both at the same time, and theres little more depressing in the world than the pattern of plain bricks. Its art 'cos I say it is, its a crime 'cos the law says it is. we all know which ones an ass Whos got a link to the stupid large thread on this?
  6. why fifty years and why £120 ? I spend more than 120 a year on heating and electric Probably closer to £1500 per year and the cost of these is NOT coming down. what size panel =£120 p/y?
  7. precisely it has a finite number of junctions but the nuber of junctions and routes that are available for use is probably less than 1/4 of actual junctions and routes. nobody expects a private and traffic free road but why would you want a pointlessly busy one? why would it be chaos? some thing my driving instructor said always sticks with me and I think its applicable to what your thinking, -when driving towards another car - 'always try and remember that the guy in the other car probably doesn't want to crash into you just as much as you don't want to crash into him.' you (and to a certian extent Planner1) seem to think that opening up most roads to unrestricted acess and other sensible options would result in mayhem , but you have no foundation for this theroy, none of us alive have ever driven in these situations nor apparently has the 'model' been run to see what would happen. I can appreciate certian traffic lights and certian one way streets and even certian no acsess, but A lot of lights and junctions are there simply for the sake of it. example Theres no way in the world that the junction of queens, london road wouldn't be improved if the bus gate was removed. ok I'll take into account the school; how does diverting traffic left around a park towards bramall lane then right to a junction to go right onto queens then past the same park and school help? it doesn't make any sense. From a child safety point of view; barriers, lolipop ladies and a pelican crossing (bear in mind that the kids should only be wandering about this area for two periods of the day really) would benifit esp when you take into account that youve just diverted all the traffic along a park edge where children are probably more likely to be unsupervised and also around that area for a greater period of the day. Now look at traffic that had no intention of doing anything but passing the end of queens rd is forced onto it and along it just to leave it?! not to mention that traffic heading towards town is halted to allow the right turn,on a road that could easily accomodate a permanant left turn lane why not simply install a round about at queens/london/ a light controlled one if you must, the main problem is really heely bridge , so why not widen it as that is the true bottle neck of that area? If your feeling really adventurous you could bury/raise the road past the school. Or if you was really sensible you'd change the main entrance of the school and take away the pavement and the now pointless toilets to further improve the potential roundabout. and thats just one junction that is blocked and badly planned. the school is now a glorified roundabout. annd there are probably 25/30 sets of expensive traffic lights in place where a circle of grass and bricks would do better. sorry for the length of the post but that might highlight what an excissive waste of time was spent not fixing a problem.
  8. but this is part of the point your trying to dismiss, If, for instance i want to go to,,, er the town hall.-and every other car has to do this as well if they want to go there[/u] I have one option (from woodseats end that is). I have to get to the crucible and then go round it to get to the town hall, to get to the crucible, I have two options; go via milenium galleries or via park sq, there is a stupid third option that involves, oh no I forgot that is bus only. - you could go via division street. then down to cole brothers, oh no another bus only route- to get to park sq I only have one option, to get to milenium galleries I have two, etc etc etc There must be fifty or so different options that are unavailable to get to the town hall. Please bear in mind that the town hall is mainly surrounded by buildings but if you think about all of the roads; near shu building, near decathalon, back of the moor, near atkinsons, near division st, near the city hall, near fargate, near argos, near park sq and back round near to spearmint rhino and the shu building that are DEAD ends and ONE WAY only ..how many??? loads. Now think of the options to go to town hall that are closed and if your thinking of using the excuses of; community safety, of rat runs and and congestion and whatever. This is a city centre your talking about NOT a suburb or terraced street. now consider how congested the city was a few days ago when it snowed, it was absoluley terrible the jam extended from penistone rd to the police station to the town hall to the moor to eccalsall rd to queens road to woodseats... and I'm sure it probably extended in other directions as well. all because too many cars are forced onto such a small amount of roads and forced to go to places and in directions they have no wish to go. nothing to do with junction capacity what. so. ever! or put another way 60000 cars into one,5, 10 junctions= jam 60000 cars into 50,80,100 junctions = .......
  9. it is utterly stipid what has been done to the traffic system in and around town the amount of forced one way and dead ened roads are unbelievable. I went through town today and its actually a joke, the obsession of getting everyone onto the ring road and onto main roads is good but you need to be able to get on and off it wherever you want, it wa gridlock throughout town tonite beacuse all traffic crossing town HAS to use these main routes. the objective is not to get from a to b, its to be able to get everywhere, ato b is how you screw up a system
  10. this is so true, I get the feeling there are a lot of people driving aronud with major paronia and the word 'black ice' burned into their heads. snow near a road and snow on a road are not the same thing. and yes be carefull their are bits of snow covered gritted roads but its a case by case basis not all roads are the same.
  11. This week I have mainly been trying to perfect my handbrake turn, The good handbrke turn weather we arehaving has really helpd and I'm now quite proficent at the 180+deg and the 90 left into 90 right degree turns. I dont really se the point of the 360 seems like showboating to me. does anyone know of any hairpin turns to practice on?
  12. This is so accurate its spooky, I've thought this a thousand times and I haven't signed on in years and I feel so sorry for anyone who's not a 'scrounger' and has to these days be made to feel like they should justify their jsa.( oh and any one who's prepared to tolerate jc/a4e bolloks deserves their jsa ihmo) the jsa and all it entails really is a waste of taxpayers money has any one any idea how much those touchscreen units actually cost?
  13. natural law developed into common law= cause no harm or loss. so as aresult generally you dont do to others what you dont want to happen to you and yours. But its not wrong to murder, anymore than its wrong to sleep or eat its just not a very good way to live as life would become one big long vengeful fight.
