Usually if a registered salvage company come an take your car they would put on v5 logbook that vehicle has been scrapped ensuring car doesn't get back on road. If you sell private then seller can repair and use or sell on. If insurance company pay you out and take it away it will probably go in a salvage yard and could get sold as a damaged repairable . That's one of the things that put me off going out for bike rides. Too many craters at side of road.
