  1. I definitely recommend Amie Parsons (http://www.amieparsonsphotography.co.uk) From the first time I contacted her she was quick to respond, friendly, and professional. She was always happy to answer my questions and eager to make sure we were getting what we wanted from her. On the wedding day itself she was absolutely brilliant- she came to my house while the girls were getting ready and got some great shots without intruding on us (we were, not surprisingly, running late!), then followed us to the venue where she captured the day perfectly. She got pictures of EVERYONE at the wedding without being obvious about it. She drove my husband and I off-site for a couples photo shoot in the Peaks and the results are the most stunning wedding photos I have ever seen (of course I might be a bit biased there!) Everyone has been raving about our pictures and wants to know where we found our photographer. Her prices were very reasonable, as well!
  2. I just went to Steel City Salsa at The Millenium Hall on Ecclesall Rd last night for the first time, and it was great! Classes are every Thursday, with the beginners class 7-8:30, then there's an "Improvers" class after that, followed by an "Intermediate" class last. The instructors were great, and very patient with those of us first-timers in the room. We're definitely going to go again next week! The only thing that wasn't great was the male:female ratio. Salsa is a partner dance, but the females in the room greatly outnumbered the males, so about half the class was always dancing on their own. Next time we need to try to recruit more men! But if you're looking for lessons, I would definitely recommend it :-)
  3. Does anyone have any comments (good or bad) on seamstresses they've worked with lately? Either independent ones or through bridal shops is fine. In addition to whatever size changes need to be made, I also want to change the strap on my dress and the appliqué detail on the hip, so I want to make sure I find someone good and trustworthy to do it! Thanks in advance :-)
  4. I read this article too, and I'm interested in possibly going along sometime-- does anyone know what time they meet?
  5. Has anyone else been to Yankees on Ecclesall Road lately and found it terrible? I'm not a regular poster on the Forum, but I had such a bad experience tonight that I feel I need to share it. I ordered the Combo platter, which consisted of BBQ ribs, onion rings, chicken nuggets, and chicken wings, along with a side of 4 sauces in a stand. The ribs were about 98% fat--I dug and dug and couldn't find any meat on them to eat. The chicken wings were dried out. The onion rings were the kind that don't have any real onions in them. And the chicken nuggets were worse than what they used to serve at my school lunches. When the waitress came over to ask if I was done with my sauces (mind you, my partner and I still had full plates of food so I thought it was terribly rude that she was trying to clear the table before we were anywhere near finished), I told her that my food wasn't edible. I explained what was wrong and told her I didn't want to order anything else. She took my meal off the bill, but left everything else on. We had to wait ages to get the bill, and when we finally got it after repeatedly attempting to flag someone down (both servers spent the entire time either chatting to their friends at one of the tables or standing in the back talking to the cooks), no one came to collect our money because they were too busy chatting again. When I got up to ask to pay and voice my displeasure, I was barely acknowledged. I was appalled at both the food AND the service and I will certainly not be returning. As an American myself, I'm embarrassed that this is the standard being portrayed as "American"--it is certainly no where near the standards I would expect in the States. I would love to see a true American-style restaurant in Sheffield that could actually produce decent food with quality service. Yankees is certainly NOT that restaurant.
  6. Hello! I've just started following this thread, and am interested in getting involved! I moved to Sheffield about four months ago, and only know a handful of people here. I'll be working on an away job for the month of January so I'd only be able to do Saturday events, but in February I should be more available other nights of the week as well. I think that pub quizzes sound like perfect events, as they let you chat and get to know people without the pressure of just sitting and looking at each other. I don't suppose there are any quizzes on Saturdays, are there?
