Hi thanks ,I removed drive &found some fluff where it plugs in cleaned it all off putit back together tried a dvd which it played after a while of it reading it, I ejected it &tried again no joy tried another dvd no luck, wierd

Yes it is a dvd drive but its not been used for a while, its set to region 2 which matches the disc tried lens cleaner disc. When it tries to load the disc it spins it 3 -4times then makes a chattering sort of noise like gears out of sync ? Thanks for your advice and replies .Would you know roughly what the cost of a replacement would be?.

It doesn't play at all but makes noises as if if its trying then makes a noise as if gears are grinding hope that makes sense but like is say it plays cds ok.

Thanks for replying . It was the disc that wasn't in tray properly which in turn meant it couldn't read discs . I had to strip console and realign lazer slide. Thanks

Hi i was wondering if anyone could tell me if you dont update your xbox would it stop reading disc if is it just a case of updating to get it running again .All this has happend since plugging in a kinect , could this have caused the problem??
