  1. Only about T&C for staff, school days / holidays, and not following the national curriculum as far as I can tell from the HMG website. https://www.gov.uk/types-of-school/free-schools#:~:text=Free schools are funded by,processes like a grammar school. "Free schools are funded by the government but are not run by the local authority. They have more control over how they do things. They’re ‘all-ability’ schools, so can not use academic selection processes like a grammar school. Free schools can: set their own pay and conditions for staff change the length of school terms and the school day They do not have to follow the national curriculum."
  2. Which given the high level of homelessness in Bournemouth would be pretty much a certainty. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp4pvpxe8dxo https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/23993211.hundreds-people-will-homeless-bcp-christmas/
  3. Torygraph has been doing them for as long as anyone can remember 😄
  4. A drink is too wet without a fag , a fag is too dry without a drink, according to our lass. I agree wholeheartedly.
  5. How many people can live in a country where they choose to live? Reckon I'm one of a tiny minority as I moved to France due to a combination of an inheritance, 40 odd years of savings to a personal pension, and owning a house in Sheffield I can rent out.
  6. https://www.newsweek.com/us-give-iran-150-billion-barack-obama-jack-posobiec-1835083 "The U.S. did not "give" $150 billion to Iran in 2015. In 2015, as part of an international deal with Iran called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Iran agreed to cut back on nuclear enrichment programs in exchange for the unfreezing of its own assets."
  7. Well I suppose we can be thankful it wasn't a Trump bible - or was Truss signaling she needs another two goes to really finally sink the UK economy 😎
  8. The Head seems to have a rather individual take on "secular"; https://www.newstatesman.com/comment/2024/04/michaela-school-ban-prayer-ruling-katharine-birbalsingh She is keen to stress that secularism is not the absence of all faith, but the search for a uniting value. “We sing ‘God Save the King’ because our country and our flag unites us,” she says. How is that different from a CofE school? /?
  9. From what I can gather, it appears any school receiving state funding should provide a "daily act of worship" under the terms of the 1998 Education Act. https://humanists.uk/education/parents/collective-worship-and-school-assemblies-your-rights/ “…each pupil in attendance at a community, foundation or voluntary school shall on each school day take part in an act of collective worship.”
  10. Plus the chance of Iran, Yemen or Israel ruling the world in the the foreseeable is zero.
  11. This is Sheffield Forum - probably one of the last assumptions I'd make.
  12. When I'm in Sheffield, a visit to the Red Deer on Pitt Street. Must be one of a handful of Sheffield pubs that have served consistently good hand pulled beer since the days before CAMRA. Nigh on 50 years ago to the first time I went there. Glad the toilets aren't still outside across the yard though.
  13. Looks like its a cocktail bar / diner these days. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186364-d15351369-Reviews-Lost_Found_Sheffield-Sheffield_South_Yorkshire_England.html
  14. Wasn't the club called "Dom Polska"? White letters on a purple background if memory serves. First flat I had in Sheffield in the mid 70's wasn't far away (Eastgrove Road) and my landlady was Polish (lived round the corner on Thompson Road) - back then a decent sized Polish community in the area.
