  1. We decided to create some raised beds this year and have realised that we will need many tons of soil to fill them. There seems to be a huge variation in price for 'high quality' top soil varying from about £30 to £100 a tonne. Can anyone reccomend a good supplier in south Yorkshire or north notts that does good top soil preferably with a high organic content that's not full of sand?
  2. We moved to worksop 3 months ago, to one of the new ish estates and we have not regretted it.Our main reason for moving was how much cheaper property is. Our neighbors are fantastic and it's really quiet. I quite like the town centre it's compact but has most shops you night need, loads of butchers, post office , banks & small high street shops. I've never been out in the town after dark but in the daytime everyone I've met has been friendly. We commute to Sheffield city centre every day and it only takes 10mins longer than our old commute from S12.
  3. Went to Aagrah last night, the first time ive been since it replaced Amraj, and I have to say the food was great but the service was the worst we have had for a long time. They made numerous mistakes, Drinks took about 10mins to arrive,my partner asked for a small cobra as he was driving but they gave him a large one and disappeared before he could say anything. By the time a waiter had come back he had given up. He ended up paying for a large but only drinking half of it. The wrong starter turned up, it took two attempts to get a glass of water with my wine and my partner never did get a knife to eat his dinner with, despite asking. These would have been minor things, had they not given our food to another table. After 45mins waiting the waiter came and told us the problem and laid the blame on the customer who took the food and didnt tell him it was not their order. He said the food would be 5-6mins when actually it turned up after 20mins. We were tempted to walk out, we wished we had tried the buffet but took Al a carte at the waiters advice. When the food came out they made the chef bring it out on a cart and made him apologise, despite it not being the chefs fault, it all felt very awkward. At the end of our meal all three waitors were clearing an setting the two empty tables opposite us, they did this for 15mins avoiding eye contact when I tried to signal for the bill. After making a total mess up of the main meal I couldn't understand why they would keep us waiting even longer! At the end of the meal they dumped the bill on the table and stood waiting while I fished out some cash, no discount or offer of good will and they even charged for popadoms, which we did not know were charged for when the waiter asked if we wanted some, we didn't see them on the menu. All in all, we wont be going back there again! Its a shame because we really like the Aagrah in the city centre.
  4. I'm moving on Monday so I know how you feel! The few days it took to exchange the contacts were super stressful. I don't think I ever want to move again. It will be worth it though to spend the Christmas holidays in a new house.
  5. By any chance is the OP one of those pensioners who goes to the post office at lunch time when they have all day to spare, and spends 10mins getting their pension and paying bills while a queue forms half way down the road? All of these things do not require a post office, although I do have sympathy for the older generation who do struggle with the concept of doing things online. Perhaps there should be a queue for people who need to post things and a queue for everyone else, so neither groups of people get frustrated with the other? Ebay has managed to integrate printed postage now so I always print it and drop it off at the post office. There is normally a queue to get a proof of posting though.
  6. I got quotes from about 10 different companies last week to do our house move. The quotes for a 7.5 ton lorry + 2 men came in between £360 - £980 fixed price or £42-£84 per hour, there was a huge variation in price, however some companies looked more professional than others! We decided to go with Specialised Movers in the end because they were recommended by a friend, but Mach1 would have been our second choice.
  7. I'm sad to say that when it comes to glasses the big chains seem to be a lot better than the little family businesses. The big chains seems to be far better organised and less prone to mistakes. My mother paid £1000 for her last pair, I keep telling her to at least try somewhere like specsavers but she refuses thinking that only little family run business can cater for her needs (she needs coloured lenses). I don't think alot of people understand that 1) you can get your prescription from your eye test and 2) shop around with the prescription like you would any other form of goods. Having said that I have used specsavers for about 5 years, usually get mine when the designer glasses are 2 for £99 and the eye test free with a voucher. They have my details on their computer system, meaning I can go to any specsavers in any major city, and get a new prescription and glasses within an hour.
  8. I visited the netherlands earlier this year and saw lots and lots of these bikes and mothers cycling around with their children in them. In the netherlands I would have no problems with this, everywhere is cycle friendly and road users are concious of cyclists. However with the state of London cycle routes this man is really putting his children at risk. If it were my own children I wouldn't take children on any form of cycle on busy city roads. In sheffield I try to avoid cycling in the city myself for fear of my own safety.
  9. There are lots of free ones on the play store, my preference is for Swype which allows you to drag your finger in one motion over the keyboard and it works out what word you are typing, I think it costs about £0.65p. Depending on whether Samsung added their own features to your version of android, you might already have some pre installed options if you go to settings and input options.
  10. I got some as gifts from debenhams last year. It tasted so disgusting though I didn't buy any again, tastes like chocolate with added salt.
  11. To the OP you don't say what denomination you were trying to pay with, was it a £20 note? I used to live in Nottingham where the machines on the bus gave no change, if you didn't have the correct change you had to over pay or get off of the bus, I think we have it quite lucky here in sheffield where you can pay with a £5 note if you don't have exact change. I can see why they give vouchers though, most people can manage to think ahead enough to get something close to the fare, but you really can't expect buses to give change for £10,£20 notes all day long. I think its actually quite good of them to issue vouchers as an option rather than forcing you to get off.
  12. Our local sainsburys sell a basic kit which includes a basic rolling mat, nori and a few other bits and pieces for making sushi. Its quite a big store, not sure if the little ones would stock them.
  13. We are currently using Coates Solicitors, they can give you a quote online, we found them to be very reasonable. http://www.coatessolicitors.co.uk/free-conveyancing-quote.aspx They have been super quick, sent our contracts out within 2 days of receiving our paperwork and have been very helpful. They still sent most documents by 1st class post but they arrived next day so it was all very efficient - I'm not sure why your own solicitors in hull couldn't do the same though! Also...The estate agents don't really need to be involved once they have handled the offer they just need to email the offer to your solicitors, then they take over - talk directly to your solicitors and to the people you are buying from if you can get their details. We had a delay form our sellers because they were waiting for the estate agents to get in contact with the solicitors for them instead of doing it themselves. This wasted about 2 weeks. We went directly to our solicitors on the day of the offer and all the documents were with us within a few days.
  14. My partner and I spend between £80-100 per week, but we don't eat out we take lunches to work. Most of the cost is vegetables and lean meat or fish, we eat 5-10 fruit/veg/salad items a day and that all adds up. We have cut down by about £10 a week by not buying chicken very much now and I eat alot of veggie meals. When I was a student I could live off of about £25 a week eating lots of bread, pasta and cheap foods like chips and sausages but in no way was that healthy. I'm not sure in the present day its possible to eat healthily and on fresh produce from the supermarket on a reasonable budget!
  15. Hmm not sure why the garage advised doing that then! They asked if we wanted the ones on the front moving to the back (all 4 have snow tires but the front ones were more worn). I guess it might be more dangerous if the front tires wear more heavily and get down to low tread.
