  1. It does seem a lot nicer than other Lidl stores inside. Nice and airy, with lovely bakery section as you go in.
  2. Well silly me for not spotting that nugget of information amongst all the name-dropping and insider cliquey chat about who knows the Sheffield pub scene best. Apologies for trying to be helpful to people who might not have read the entire thread from over a year ago.
  3. Saw on Twitter/Facebook today that it's being taken over by the same folk who run the Sheaf View. "As many of our customers already know, we have just taken over The Wellington at Shalesmoor, S3. It is presently closed for renovations and is due to re open Mid September as our Neepsend Brewery Tap. We are currently looking to build a team of enthusiastic and hard working individuals and have various positions available. If you have an interest in real ale and fine spirits, and would like to join us, please send your cv to sheaf-inns@hotmail.co.uk" It's going to be easier for me than traipsing across town to the Sheaf!
  4. I found a lovely cuddly lion in the middle of the road this afternoon. He was at the junction of Neepsend Lane and Rutland Road, near the traffic lights, at about 4.30pm. It's a long shot, but if anyone knows who be belongs to, please let me know.
  5. Venetian? Roman? Vertical? What sort of blinds? There are many!
  6. I had a 1998 Saab 9-5, which was one of the GM models, so if yours is only 11 years old, it must be a GM one surely? I loved it, and I'd still have it today if it hadn't died on the A1 in February. I still mourn it. I looked at various other cars when replacing it, but didn't find anything to compare. So I bought another, newer one, and love that too. And for those who say that it's basically a Vauxhall, you're wrong. The 900 shared less than a third of its components with the Cavalier it was based on. The 9-3 (based on the Vectra) shared even less! (figures courtesy of Top Gear). So Sarah, if you love it, stick with it and pay what you can afford. And say bugger off to anyone who disagrees - it's your car and your money. And a few dings add character
  7. Another shout for Thorncliffe - always have excellent service from them.
  8. http://www.derwentsashwindows.co.uk/ Can't recommend these chaps highly enough. I have upvc sash windows from them, and they're not remotely tacky. Excellent service from them, and they're really nice blokes. Wherever you get them from, it's definitely worth paying the extra (about 10%) to have the woodgrain effect finish. I think the shiny flatness of standard upvc can make them look cheap and nasty. But mine are lovely!
  9. Try Whittington's at the back of Costco, off the Parkway: http://www.yell.com/b/Whittingtons+Floral+and+Craft+Centre-Florists+Supplies-sheffield-S94WN-1001633/
  10. We went home to try to find another one online - but were already too late for many of the ones we would have tried normally. So we ended up at Ripon Racecourse, which had a 12pm sellers/1pm buyers start (which was enforced). It was a bit further to go than we intended, but it was a glorious day, so a nice drive up there, and a good turn out. And I couldn't have faced lugging it all home only to go through the entire rigmarole another day! We got rid of about two thirds, and the remainder is going to the local animal rescue charity shop: http://barnsleyanimalrescue.org.uk/ So it was a good day in the end, even though it didn't start as planned!
  11. For anyone thinking of going to Thorpe Hesley car boot, it's a 7am start for sellers, even though this isn't mentioned anywhere that I've seen. So if you get there at about 7.30am as we did, there's a chance you won't get in (we didn't). But we didn't find that out until after we'd queued up the hill for about 20 minutes. Not impressed by the organisation - it would have been nice for them to send someone down the queue of cars to tell them not to bother waiting! And while we were waiting we saw some people coming away with purchases, so it doesn't seem as though the 8am start was enforced at all.
  12. Star story: http://www.thestar.co.uk/community/60m-ikea-store-for-sheffield-1-5572163 From the Ikea website: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/campaigns/sheffield.html

  14. It worked ok for a few days, bizarrely after changing wifi channel on router, just in case it was conflicting. We thought that had fixed it, but it started playing up again yesterday. Tried brand new duracell batteries, have checked water pressure (ok), and re-synched the controller and receiver. Receiver is now flashing red and green when it should, depending on what is pressed on the remote. So that seems to be working ok, it's just that the signal doesn't seem to be getting passed on to the boiler from the receiver. At the moment, I can only get the boiler to come on at all by pressing the spanner button. Is it time to call out a friendly boiler repair man?
  15. I have a BG installed central heating system - Worcester Bosch combi boiler with RC Plus wireless controller in dining room, and WR1 receiver in bathroom airing cupboard. When on, the boiler is fine, getting things nice and hot. However, I think I have a faulty controller/receiver. Manual override only seemed to work when the batteries were taken out and then put back in again, or new batteries entirely were fitted. Pressing the button on controller doesn't make the receiver flash like it should. The timed temp increases (morning and afternoon) seemed to send the signal ok. However, this week (just when you need it!) the timed signals haven't worked either, and I've woken up to a freezing cold house. The batteries in the controller are definitely working, and there's no battery warning on the display. Any ideas? Thanks!
