Clutching at straws? Unless someone burped in your face I doubt you'd be troubled by '' alcoholic fumes'' from a nearby table.

Some people's responses seem to centre around whether children are present whereas I think this is irrelevant. I wouldn't allow anyone to smoke in my house, and I'd probably only stand about 10 minutes of a party if people were smoking indoors. I know that smokers have to do it somewhere, but it can spoil a nice al fresco meal if you are sat outside a cafe or beer garden and the inconsiderate so and sos on the next table start puffing away.

Merry Xmas Alcoblog. I'm not a frequent visitor but your well crafted meanderings have kept me amused

Has any one been to the Furniture Barn
Waypher replied to woggle's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
It's called being helpful. Being rude is not the way to go mate. I would disagree.....if you tell them you are having a look around they should leave you to it. If you then subsequently have questions about anything you've seen, then that would be being helpful. -
The No 1 Christmas Toy "Pie-Face" Is Sold Out Already!!
Waypher replied to scania's topic in General Discussions
It happens every year.....why is anyone surprised? One toy always gets over-hyped so gullible parents end up killing each other for the last one in Toys R Us. I remember years ago when my lad was young and it was Thunderbirds Tracy Island. Kids get too many presents anyway these days so let them play with what they get and buy them the latest ''must have'' early in the New Year when the shops will have plenty at normal price. ---------- Post added 19-12-2015 at 22:05 ---------- One of the few things I remembered from my Geography lessons at school ( thanks Mr Mellor ) who made it more memorable with the phrase '' They eat what they can, and they can what they can't '' That was 40 years and I still remember it -
Mother Theresa performs miracles from beyond the grave

Yet more smoke and mirrors for the gullible. An omnipotent God who seems to be responsible for all the good that happens ( including miracles ) but none of the bad. -

Would you join the British Armed Forces?
Waypher replied to NigelFargate's topic in General Discussions
I like to think that if I'd been around at the time the I'd have enrolled during WW2 to defend our country against the real threat of invasion by Nazi Germany. However, I certainly wouldn't join up to fight in many of the modern ''conflicts'', which are not about defending our country, and more to do with the greedy aspirations of governments, multi-nationals and the global elite. -
Not meaning to be disrespectful but I never understood the appeal to be honest. He was a good showman and entertainer, and obviously had charisma, but in my humble opinion was only an average singer with a limited range.

Advice wanted on reporting planning issues
Waypher replied to mrcharlie's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
It might seem a bit old school in this day and age, but why not write a letter to the Planning Department giving full details of your suspicions but witholding your own name and address? If it is such a serious breach I'm sure they'll send an officer to investigate. -
These are also known as clawback or overage charges and are an insidious way for the vendors to sell land fairly cheap but then profit from your own hard work if/when you eventually get planning permission. I'd only consider this if you could negotiate a realistic percentage...say 10% or 15%....certainly not 50%. If they want anymore, tell them to get the planning permission instead before selling the land. There are ways to mitigate the clawback...see link below. https://www.homebuilding.co.uk/how-to-win-at-uplift-clauses/

Mobiles didn't get nicked back then simply because they were too big and heavy. My first car phone was like an anvil sat in the footwell of my Ford Escort. It was only '' mobile'' if you had a wheelbarrow handy.

I wouldn't bother with the RSPCA to be honest. We had a similar situation last year and they just weren't interested. If the dog is being fed and doesn't show signs of abuse then they aren't bothered. Report it as a noise issue to the council and you are more likely to get a result.

Which television programmes would you like to see return?
Waypher replied to Mister M's topic in Entertainment Chat
Hill Street Blues....a real cut above the usual American police procedurals.
