  1. Spud. Ian Wood. Still lives in Stannington. Bike was a Tiger 100 after a Bond scooter. Regards Tony
  2. Would love to be there tomorrow but a long way from Aus. I hope its a great night. Regards Tony.
  3. The one I knew was mates with Kieth Littlewood and Tony Driver but I only ever knew him as Connie. A bit older than me.
  4. G'day. A fairly well known fisherman and fishing writer named Tag Barnes used to work for Sportex in the 60's. regards Tony
  5. On Aussie construction sites the guy who directs the crane driver is known as a dogman. Hand signals or radio. In the old days, 60s they used to ride on the crane hook on a sling and use a rope for signalling. Many were killed by double decker buses. Not PC. anymore and the Oh&s would have fits.
  6. With a forum title like mine I thought I should have my 2penneth. The ship that died on my birthday 4th may 1982 was of course not the "Shinysheff" even though she might have been called that. The WW2 ship was called "shiny" because the good burghers of Sheffield at the time had all her brightwork made of stainless steel instead of brass. I'm glad to hear the later Sheffields being called Shiny. Lest we forget.
  7. On a construction site loo wall in Sydney, Aus. late 60s. "There are only 2 races on this earth, Yorkshiremen and those who would like to be!"
  8. The house in the corner of the dam was called "Fox Holes Lodge" and in the mid 60s the Wood family lived there. The cabins you talk about ran back towards the Post office on that side of the river. Who owned them or rented them out I wouldn't know. not sure if any of it is still there but you could google earth the area.
  9. If the machine can read "Attercliffe" it can read owt.
  10. Duchess of Montrose. First love of my life and never forgotten. Thanks for the memories.
  11. Remember walking home from the Smugglers and trying to decide if it was a meat and potatoe pie with relish or wait till Taplin Rd for fish and chips. Sorry cant remember the names of the shops. Had them a minute ago. best chippie in UK. Hang on , just remembered Eddie Booths. One out of two ain't bad.
  12. Wasp grubs make the best fishing bait in the world. Just get the grubs!!!
  13. Fettlers worked in the steel industry. When a metal casting came out of a mould it would have various rough edges or imperfections so would go to the fettling shop to be cleaned up before further machining. so to give something or someone a good fettlin was to clean them up a bit.
  14. A great big thanks Hillsboro for the link to the photo posted earlier. That is my(was) my dads shop on the coner of Shirland Lane and Britnall St. I have been searching for a snap for years. Pity it was after the shop closed but great to be able to see his name up there. If any one should come across anymore photos please let me know. regards Tony Crookes
