  3. we went on saturday for lunch...£4.75 each for a sandwich was pretty pricey...I quite liked the coffee blend but mine was cold by the time the waiting staff had meandered around the place trying to work out who it was for...some table numbering wouldnt go amiss! we wont be going again when there are so many other (and in my opinion better) places in the area for coffee/lunch.

  5. Do you still want to be renting when you and/or your partner retire? If you think long term for yourselves and are happy that your pension(s) will cover your rent and outgoings for the rest of your lives then I would say carry on renting and give your daughter a great head start with your savings. If however you would like to spend your retirement knowing that you have minimal outgoings, a secure roof over your heads and some money to spend doing fun stuff, then it might be worth sacrificing some of your lifestyle now to allow both you and your daughter to have a comfortable future. I don't think there is a right answer, but if you wanted to buy together you would need to consider (as you probably have) that the number of years your partner has until retirement might affect the mortgage you are eligible for, so the longer you leave it the harder it might become.

  7. I had mine replaced with wood on a mid-terrace by dalton roofing. front and back came to £350 all in, and they undercoated and painted it before it went up, then did a second coat once it was fixed. hope this helps!
  8. If you decide on city limits and want to actually learn to dance rather than just attend a social free for all then I recommend getting private lessons rather than joining a group class. We went to group lessons there for 10 weeks and at week 10 we were doing exactly the same steps as we were in week 1, nothing new, nothing different and no turning involved! We have since decided to go to the dance centre at beighton instead and have some private lessons...where we have learnt more in 1 hour as we did in 10 weeks in the group.
  9. get her something similar to stuff she already has in terms of style and colour...nothing worse than being presented with an itchy red lace bra and string set and being expected to be grateful if its not your thing!! also check carefully that you get the right size!
  10. I would think that the house has been priced for sale according to its current state so you would be unable to get a reduced price on the basis of work needing to be done. Normally it is possible to negotiate on price after a survey if the survey throws up something completely unexpected (dry rot, damp etc) but as many of the changes you mention are cosmetic (kitchen/ bathroom/carpets/heating etc) you are unlikely to get any kind of reduction for that work. Your best bet might be to see if you can have an extra £20,000 on your mortgage to cover the works...I think you can get loans against the mortgage so work can proceed immediatley but you'd have to check with a financial adviser or your mortgage company for details.
  11. which is what I said...if you take identical weights (as that is what is discussed, and not voumes or cubic meters) then they weigh the same. My point with the bag of feathers analogy was that in terms of the space (or volume) that weight takes up under your skin, then muscles takes up less space per pound than fat does. I dont know anyone who measures their weight by volume or cubic meters so I would say that I am correct and that pound for pound a pound of muscles weighs the same as a pound of fat, or eyeballs, or hair.
  12. muscle doesn't "weigh more"!!! a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat in the same way that a ton of feathers weighs the same as a ton of lead. However, muscle is a lean tissue so it takes up less space under your skin than fat...so if you lose fat but increase muscle mass through exercise then you will look slimmer and more toned, but could weigh the same/more than before you started (in the same way that a ton of feathers will probably need a bigger bag than a ton of lead!).
  13. can I recommend the points calculator (or organiser or whatever it is they call it these days) and the ww scales! I have both and they are a godsend...particularly the calculator becasue it is incredibly handy at the supermarket if you find yourself wavering over a treat (the shock that it is a quarter of your daily points is normally enough to get it right back on the shelf!) good luck!
  14. contents insurance. the landlord should have insurance for the building and for his furniture if you move into a furnished place, but that wont cover your personal possessions if there were a fire/flood/burglary.

Being able to buy a set number of journeys but for use without a set time frame i.e 7 return trips to town on the 52 bus but to be used at my discretion rather than within a given time frame as currently served by the weekly/monthly rider type tickets. 3) Would a transport smartcard encourage you to use public transport more? possibly, but more frequent, cleaner and cheaper services that join up with train times would encourage me more 4) How would you to pay to top up your transport smartcard? by debit card or cash 5) Where would you like to pay to top up your transport smartcard? by phone or at terminals located in town and in shops in the suburbs served by the routes it is available for. 6) What other goods or services would you like to buy using your smartcard? None, I have a credit card.
