  2. Your chance to meet a hot favourite for 2008 Last year's World Snooker Championship runner-up Mark Selby is coming exclusively to Sheffield Hallam University on Monday 7 April to chat about his game and his hopes of clinching the title this year. Mark is feeling confident about coming to the Crucible for the tournament starting on april 19 after beating Ronnie O'Sullivan last month to take the Welsh Open title. Tickets for an evening in conversation with Mark at the University are FREE. This is a great chance for snooker fans to hear Mark talk about his game and how he prepares for a big match. You can also ask him questions and win some great prizes. There's wine and nibbles afterwards at the University's Pennine Theatre on the City Campus (Howard Street, just up from the train station and Pond Street bus station). The evening starts at 6.30pm for 7pm and will last about an hour and a half. Tickets and refreshments are FREE but they must be reserved in advance by calling the Corporate Events Team at Sheffield Hallam on 0114 225 4957 or 0114 225 4526. Leave a message with your details if it's an answerphone. Or you can email your details to events@shu.ac.uk

  5. Just because you don't like the poem does not mean it's rubbish! Perhaps Sharrowman would like to see "Sex Drugs and Sausage Rolls" plastered across the city instead? (very intelligent!) It's funded by the Arts Council as part of the Text in the City project. Poet Laureate Andrew Motion will officially unveil it on 31 October as part of the Off The Shelf festival - the kind of successful event that brings visitors and investors into the city...we should applaud it, not slag it off!
  6. Cinema is a good idea. The one at centertainment - now Cineworld - was excellent for my son's birthday. See a film, the birthday girl/boy gets to stand at the front and "start" the film while the whole theatre sings happy Birthday. The kids are then looked after by two members of staff who, after the film, take them to the party room for games and food. My son and his friends were given loads of film stuff - posters, giveaways and discount tickets for a future visit. Well worth the £10 per head - though it may cost a little more now as it was a couple of years ago.
  7. Power still out right across Winn Gardens/Wadsley park Village. I've heard reports we won't get power back today! Increased risk of burglaries?
  8. Thanks Sarah, I'll give them a call now! Cheers...Claire
  9. Can't seem to find anywhere in Sheffield that hires out roof boxes. Need one for a few days - June 1 to June 10 - to fit a Nissan Primera. Does anyone know where I can hire one from? (Don't want to buy as it's a one-off trip...)
  10. Beeley Wood has to be one of the worst - next to Winn Gardens in Middlewood S6. Closed down after a shooting recently but has re-opened as a rock pub or something...full of bikers on a Saturday night with very loud music!
  11. good God!...spot the male chauvanists on here...has nothing moved on? She's an educated, professional, experienced, qualified sports journalist and deserves whatever goals she reaches for and gets....like to see you do it!!!
  12. Photographs of Middlewood Hospital/asylum There is a website called picturesheffield.com (I'm not allowed to post the url but put the three Ws in front and you'll find it) and search under Hospitals and/or Middlewood where you'll find a number of fascinating turn-of-the-century photos of Middlewood Hospital, its grounds and some of its people.
