  1. Sheffield born and bred - holidays abroad, but no where like home - friendliest city in the world!
  2. Wondering if anyone could put me in touch with experienced crocheter who could crochet a dress?:
  3. Bloomin eck, wot memories of the swinghing sixties in Sheffield - I remember all the names and places you have all mentioned - litle blonde Dave Lidgard swanning in to the Sidewalk flashing his cash - wide boy Lance Edwards - Rowland Castleton became a personal friend of my late husband and myself - great times to remember - driving half cut out to the pubs in derbyshire and back - never got caught ha ha - don't envy kids today at all - we had fantastic times!!!
  4. Can anyone provide info re Red Hill County school circa early 1900's believe it was somewhere off West Bar area?
  5. Tiffany's was the former Locarno or "Mecca" ballroom - spent many happy days dancing with lots of mods there in the sixties following a few "jars in the Hermitage Inn and George pub at bottom of Cemetery road. Saw Blue Mink at the Fiesta, Bob Monkhouse, Dave Allen, Norman Wisdom amongst others at Cavendish. Also fantastic times at the Mojo, Blue Moon, Club 60 (recently relaunched), and favourite was Esquire (now the Leadmill) oh happy days, eh?
  6. Bertha Pearson was my form mistress at Brook school - I left in 1962!
  7. Anybody remember Richmond Hall area - Brook School on Richmond Road - love to hear memories - teachers, etc - "Bertha" Pearson, Mr Stokes, and the rest of them ?
  8. Re Whitehorses recollections of working at Frog & Parrot. Although I only ever went in a couple of times I am registering what Whitehorses had to say about Roger the landlord and I totally agree. I also worked for him when he was the landlord at the Broomhill Tavern - his name was Roger Nowill and he was an obnoxious prat! At one time wanted us to wear see-through blouses (we all refused), and he thought he was the poor man's Hugh Hefner - he told us we were not allowed to date the customers if ever were ever asked out! Bet you can guess what we young nubile barmaids retorted to that! Having said that, happy days spent in the Tavern. Gillyflower
  9. Catching up after ages on history of Ocelot, etc! Confirming other information, the Leprechaun WAS opened first by Bill Woodhams who went on to own newspaper shop for years at Crookes. Then Mick Housley. I am sure, tho, that it was also at some time owned by Bryon Mooney and called Chez Bryon, and I do know for sure, as I said before, that my late husband, Michael, and his mates took it over and called it The Faintest Idea without much success! Mick Housley and wife Laurel lived for some time in a flat at the back of the cafe on Glossop Road. I also remember the cellar he converted downstairs with the glass bottle wall - I remember getting slaughtered there one night in the company of Mick Cowan (ex boxer now deceased unfortunately) amongst others. As for the Sidewalk cafe, it WAS on Chapel walk and I spent many a Saturday afternoon there "posing" as Ruby said. I do believe she was right in saying it was owned by Harry Hart, but I think he had a son who was a right little squirt who used to run it - think his name was David, and he, like Ruseel Beamer (a friend of Mick Housley and my late husband) used to show off in a sports car. Do any of you remember the Mods congregting outside Peter Robinson's store where Primark is situated now? It was a great time to be young - all the scooter boys, of which I dated one! All nighters at the Mojo - saw Ike and Tima there - also the Blue Moon Club, also run by Pete & Geoff Stringfellow - oh those were the days as Mary Hopkin sang - "my" tavern was the Broomhill Tavern where I met my late husband in 1968! Kids today don't know the half do they?
  10. I remember all the good times at the Esquire and Club 60. All the blues legends and the up and coming acts before they were well known. Attended Terry's fancy dress parties at Christmas dressed as cat and was taken home by Dave Berry. Was there when Ray Stuart fell off balcony and bit through his tongue. Loads of mods there but don't recall any teds. Club 60 did used to niff a bit at times but what great nights. Wouldn't get away with it now with health and safety rules - ha-ha! Terry Thornton was locked up for sending nail bomb to his former girlfriend. The lady who ran Esquire with him went on to run a market stall in Bakewell I believe. Any more memories from anyone - remember all nighters at Mojo, and Twisted Wheel in Manchester?
  11. Ocelot Cafe was owned by Mick Housley who went on to become successful in antiques. He also jointly owned a cafe in Broomhill called Che Bryon with a guy called Bryan Mooney (of the famous family I believe). My husband and his friends took over the cafe in Broomhill and called it The Faintest Idea but it did not stay open long after that! The Favorita was the first Italian coffee bar to open and was frequented by many of the mods in Sheffield (myself included) after we had danced the night away at the Esquire club. I always thought there was a downstairs to Favorita as well but that was obviously the Ajanta next door. Hppy days!!!
  12. I am looking for any information about Kersal Mount 115 Manchester Road Sheffield S10 5DN
