  1. Took Mrs DD and the pups this evening - not very impressed with service. Gave our order - grown ups food came first after about 20 minutes (no bad thing there)- Mrs DD requested cod, chips and mushy peas - when delivered waiter said small cod and chips, no peas provided. Said not asked for small cod but never mind, then about 10 minutes later the pups food arrived -not what was ordered - they asked for chicken nuggets they got fish - sent back - after about 15 min the waitress who took our order came back to see if everything ok, told her of problem and our food going cold whilst waiting for pups food to arrive - she just said "Oh" and walked off to see to other diners - never ventured near us again. Soon after pups food arrived (and wifes peas) - asked for condiments - none arrived - took half an hour to get bill - charged for large cod and childrens fish dinners, when queried bill recalculated and £7.50 knocked off. Can't say it was really busy - about 3/4 full when we got there but emptied to 1/3rd whilst we were waiting so its not like they were rushed off their feet. No complaints about taste of food - I had fish pie, tasted ok but not much of it. Pups said chicken nuggets were delicious. Nothing special - will make do with local chippy in future.
  2. Thats true they did do fish and chips - don't remember the fish and chip van though, only the Fletchers bread van that used to come around. It was a grand place to grow up don't you think?
  3. Sadly many are no longer with us. Do these names ring any bells? McCrudden, Kean, McDermott, O'Brien, Coyne, Cassidy, Sheehan, Mooney, Gallagher, Monaghan, Harper, McFadden, Bishop, Kelly, Connolly - so many more. Do you remember the big nights e.g. St Patricks or New Years Eve - the place would be heaving - standing room only; and some of the bands that used to play - Larry and the Mountain Ramblers, Finians Rainbow etc. Jog any memories?
  4. I put screens up purchased from Ebay - worked a treat - no more fly eggs in the catt food since. Try these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-PC-MESH-DOOR-INSECT-FLY-CURTAIN-STOP-FLIES-INSECTS-/140526558792?pt=UK_HG_ScreensShutters_RL&hash=item20b8091e48
  5. I think the bear was called something like "Issi nono" - good grief - where did I pull that one from? not sure about the spelling. Does anyone remember "The Flashing Blade." My first introduction to dubbed TV.
  6. Just had our house rewired and alarmed by Dan Longden. I can without hesitation recommend him. PM me for his number.
  7. Ahh! I think it was Mrs Laking(sp?) who was the Chemistry teacher in question.
  8. Not one to cry over a film but years ago, whilst watching Lethal Weapon (before all the sequals) and it got to the part where Mel is sat in his mobile home at Christmas, been drinking, missing his dead wife (holding her photograph), a festive Bugs Bunny(?) cartoon on the telly; he puts a round in the chamber of his gun & puts the barrel to his head and in his mouth but can't pull the trigger. Had a few tears running down my face at that point - dont know why - must've been feeling low - its never happened since.
  9. I went from '78 - '84. If I remember correctly at Cavendish Street we had for: Maths - Mrs Sergeant(sp?), Sr Mary Beaumont, Sr Mary Paula English - Mrs Rowan, Mrs Digby, Mrs Knowles (might be wrong on this one as she never taught me - she could've been maths) History - Mr Franks, Mrs Wilson, Miss Hodges Geography - Mr Duggan, Mr O'Reilly (see P.E.) The Sciences - Mr Lawrence, Mrs Luscombe, Sr Patricia French - Miss Molloy, Mr - name escapes me (began with F?) Speech - Mrs Gallagher (I think we were being groomed for public speaking) R.E. - Miss Finny? Art - Mr Carr, Miss Rutter P.E. - Mr O'Reilly, Miss Dobrowski Music - Mr Hughes? I'm sure I've missed a few off. Then there was Matron and Sr Catherine - a formidable double act. At Oakbrook I remember: Maths - Mr Anderton, Mr Gill? English - Mrs Hallam (brilliant teacher) Geography - Mr Taylor (what did his wife teach?) History - Miss Hanlon (bit of a crush on this one) Biology - Miss Rose (and this one too) Chemistry - Miss Cooney, Mrs -oh! I can't remember her name - began with L I think, dark hair - patience of a Saint & made Chemistry really interesting. Physics - Mrs Ford, Mr Rimmer Art - Mr Gledhill, Miss Tricker R.E - Mr Kendellen, Accounts/Economics - Mr Kazmarchyk(sp?) P.E. Mr O'Reilly & McBride? Woodwork/Metalwork - Mr O'Dowd? Mr - no! its gone again - dark hair & beard Computers Mr Robins? Psychology - Mrs Lawrence Headmistress was Sr Marie aided by Mr Capps and Mr "Strapper" Grant. There were other teachers who didn't impact on me at my time there - Mrs, Bearfoot, Mr Snell, Sr Bulldog (can't remember her name & don't mean to be disrespectful but thats how she was known) and some that came and went without leaving much of an impression. Thats not to say they were poor teachers, more an indictment of my memory. If anyone can fill in the blanks please do.
  10. Thanks for that Karentrinder - I went there and could only remember the tune a few words of it. If you hadn't posted I'd be lying awake trying to think of it
  11. I lived in Burngreave from the late seventies to mid-nineties. Abbeyfield park was still good to go to then - still had a community feel to it with people using the bowling green etc. Haven't been in for years though. I remember the mazes of walkways through the flats around Brunswick Road/Lopham Street and Andover Street. The shopping area on Ellesmere Road/Spital Hill was also good - supporting a couple of Butchers, Grocers, Papershops (the Corner news with it's serving hatch), a Fishmongers, a Bakers, Hardware store etc. Certaintly not the same now.
  12. Gosh! I remember Miss Curly; although I went to St John Fishers Junior school in Hackenthorpe, she was my form teacher there in the early 70's . As I remember she always wore lots of layers of clothes - even in the height of summer. Sadly my memories of her are not good ones.
  13. Took Mrs Dirtydog out for a meal there. £90 including 4 (largish) glasses of wine (would've been cheaper to buy the bottle) for some very tasty food and unfaultable service. I like it and will go again (might even take the Mrs with me) - not a great choice for veggies though IMHO. Don't bother going if you have to eat to the point of stomach bursting before you feel you've had your moneys worth, you'll be dissapointed with the portion sizes.
