thank you for all of your suggestions so far people, i will explore all of them. I am particularly interested in the show ring if this is secure and available for hire?

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can advise me of someone who owns a fully enclosed field that i could rent by the hour to train my dog in. He's a boystrous adolescent that needs some off-lead training in an enclosed environment before trialling him in parks, etc. He's otherwise very well trained, but the puppy in him comes out when off-leash, so I need to 'desensitise' him to it without the worry of him running off. I'm happy to travel within the broader Sheffield area. any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

without knowing the poster, perhaps he is an experienced DDB owner, and is just looking for a puppy... I fully understand everyone's concerns about making sure people make educated decisions and pick the right dog - i spend a lot of my time helping people when they realise they may have made the wrong decision, but i think we sometimes risk assuming the worst about people. Who's to say the poster doesn't know everything there is to know about DDBs, and is just looking for a breeder on this forum... I personally felt the tone of Lucyjackson's post was appropriate and fitting, and i would really hope that if the poster doesn't know what he's getting himself in for, he would have the smarts to put that in his post also, rather than just trying to locate puppies. Though i agree this does not always happen

good advice on getting the pup used to grooming at this age. It will pay dividend s later on, and a Westie will most certainly need grooming frequently

great post, made me laugh

Vet recommendations for possibly allergic staffy
Pauliedw replied to curls139's topic in Sheffield Pet Owners
very true - almost all hayfever meds contain lactose, however, an animal's (or human's) sensitivity to this has to be very high to have a negative impact due to the low dose of lactose in these pills. Also worth mentioning the obvious that different size dogs will require different doses, and not necessarily one full human tablet -

this may or may not be related, but rashes on the skin is often how dogs show symptoms of hayfever - I've worked with a few that have chewed their paws/forearms raw - including my own currently. It's been a pretty bad year for hayfever, for humans and dogs. The vets i tend to use usually prescribe claritin. I only mention, because not all allergies come from the food they eat - some are environmental, and hayfever is as common in dogs as it is in humans. -
a handsome chap indeed, I'm sure he'll find a happy home soon. FYI - the second link doesn't appear to be working...?

an impressive looking collar - i haven't seen one quite like this before. Have you had any incidents with the dog catching the quick release catch at all?

Hi Chessy, I'm happy to be proven wrong, but i haven't come across a group class that would deal with anything like that. It is unfortunately one of those things that many owners reside to 'put up with' and make a point of not leaving doors open... There is work you can do in terms of boundary training that should help, but i feel you'd be looking at a one to one session to deal with such an issue.

have you tried ebay wilman?

I've seen this a few times, and have had experience of it myself. As another poster mentioned, the few times I've seen this suddenly start have been due to changes in the environment (which the owner may or may not be aware of straight away - it could be something going on outside the house). This brings about a primal territory marking strategy, often specific to one area - in this case your dog's bed. I would go to the vet and make sure there are no medical concerns, and assuming everything is ok from there, is there an option to remove the bed from the cats space at all? Often removing the 'claimed' space or object, where possible, breaks the habbit

it is a little steep as it would make it £200 without the discount. I do know there is some variation in what different vets charge, and i would say this one is certainly on the high end - which vets is it please?

Has anyone heard of Sheffield Dog Rescue?
Pauliedw replied to curls139's topic in Sheffield Pet Owners
if only all rescues walking across the city wore high vis vests - imagine that. The fundraising events would be something to behold
