  1. I knew this family. it was heart wrenching. https://news.sky.com/story/charger-caused-fatal-sheffield-house-fire-10405867
  2. I'm surprised that you would think that we didn't .... lol ......... and none of the switches inside, outside or the intercom switch in the flat were working. Anyway.... some parts and switches were replaced the following day so all's well that ends well. Edited to add: We later discovered that the first call we made to report the issue had not been logged, hence the long wait.
  3. Having had plenty of interaction with the council during my working life, prior to retirement, I can tell you that there is a rule for them and a shedload for everyone else. Apparently the door was fixed today, which is good.
  4. I did give the dept an ultimatum on the second call that I would call the fire brigade should no one turn up within the hour. No, there is no fire escape door, this is the only door.
  5. Yesterday (Wed 17th Jan), my wife (who is disabled) and I were visiting a relative who lives in a council flat. The flat is in a small (6 flat) block that has an electronic door entry system to the main communal entrance.. Upon attempting to leave the property, the lock was inoperative meaning we were trapped inside. We immediately called the repair dept and were informed that it could take up to four hours. We waited the four hours before calling again to the 'out of hours' number. When the team finally arrived (we had been trapped in the property for over 5 hours), the chaps did not know how to resolve the problem and eventually had to crow-bar the door open. God only knows what would have happened if there had been a medical emergency or worse. Last night, I thought it may be useful to leave a message on the council 'feedback' page on the website. I left a message similar to the above, only to be informed that my comment would be included in the review of 2022 ! All in all, what kind of a bunch of amateurs are running this outfit?
  6. Mr Hooper, he also took the technical drawing class
  7. Judge Chutkan was previously an attorney and later a partner in the law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner. She was an Obama doner whom he later appointed as the district judge for the US District Court for the District of Columbia. I find this interesting because for five years during her time at the law firm, one of her colleagues was Hunter Biden. They both left in 2014. Smell anything?
  8. They will probably pay a developer to take it off their hands because I would expect it to cost more to re-purpose it than it would be to build equivalent accommodation from scratch.
  9. American comic Ron White on being arrested for being drunk, "Apparently, I had the right to remain silent........................... but not the ability."
  10. Ronnie Dukes lived in Cawthorne, he moved there from Brinsworth in the '70s.
  11. Oh the irony, when it appears that ineptness and dysfunctionality is a prerequisite for a UK political leader.
  12. My wife and I called in last week and I remarked to her that the floor was dirty and none of the vacated tables had been wiped down. I'm not an over fussy type so it must have looked ropey for me to mention it. On the plus side, it was a decent coffee and for those who are interested (not me particularly) there are usb charging sockets which I suppose is a handy for some.
  13. If he survives any assassination attempt, this could get very interesting.
  14. Trump 1 ..Swamp 0..... The game is far from over.
