  1. Room for another Starbucks now..... (they're everywhere!!!!)
  2. Just the one so far - to Dublin. Great time we had there too!
  3. Rome is one of my most favourite cities. Here are my favourite places/hangouts: -Illy Espresso bar (Galleria, Via Del Corso) -Via del Condotti (fantastic shopping) -Piazza Navona (best place to eat in the evenings, great atmosphere) -Salotto 42 (If you go to one place in Rome it has to be here. My favourite bar in the whole world it's in the Piazza di Pietra) -Piazza di Spagna (great place to fill your water bottle up) -Vatican Museums (where the Cistine Chapel is, but you will walk miles before you reach it) -The Vatican (even if you're not religious or a Catholic you have to visit this amazing place) -Hard Rock Cafe (just to see the fake Cistine Chapel ceiling!) -The Pantheon (which film do you recognise it from?) -Colosseum + various ruins (interesting!) -Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi - throw coins in, you will come back to Rome)
  4. Seafood restaurants are great. After all, nothing says 'special' quite like seafood. Actually, I went to my favourite restaurant on the Fylde coast last Friday; I had foie gras parfait with truffle air to start, followed by Three cuts of Forest of Bowland Beef in a green peppercorn sauce and served with dripping fat cut chips and finally rounded off with a Banana Butty Creme Brulee. Divine! And the proprietor Caroline gave us a free bottle of champagne because I wrote kind words about them in the Times.
  5. Has anybody tried or heard things about Catch or Artisan (formerly Thyme) in Crosspool? I keep meaning to try Catch as I'm a big seafood lover but haven't yet got round to it. On a separate but related note 'Artisan' has to be one of the most stupid names for a restaurant that I have ever heard.
  6. GazB you know me too well - I love those little bubbles.
  7. Completely and utterly, head over heels, smitten kitten - in love.
  8. I agree with you that these people who took part in the drugs trial had a choice about whether to take part in it but I think that the point BoroughGal is trying to make is that it wasn't an 'informed' choice. The men who took part were of course lured by a £2000 cash incentive but it's highly unlikely that they were told the drug could be deadly. Even if such severe side-effects were unforeseen by the pharmaceuticals company they should feel duty bound to acknowledge corporate responsibility and compensate those affected.
  9. I would agree Hotphil and also add that it may have something to do with the fact that most of the goods that they sell are 'specialist' and as such they're not subject to the same level of competition as those that sell a t-shirt, an umbrella or glass tumblers. Most of them sell unique products that are not found in any of the other shops within Meadowhall. I would hazard a guess to suggest that this is the major contributing factor to their continued success in business at Meadowhall.
  10. On a separate but related point if one pays a visit to Meadowhall at the moment they can witness firsthand that paying for premium selling space in out of town shopping malls doesn't always pay off. Take GAP for example - they have reduced in size from 2 stores to 1. Is this simply to allow for a refit or evidence of dwindling sales that don't support two large selling units? Sainsbury's closing rather unexpectedly and pulling out of retail at Meadowhall altogether to name another example. Conversely, one might cite evidence that there are 'success stories' if you look close enough- The Perfume Shop used to occupy a much smaller and less prestigious unit nearer to the Boots / WHSmith end of the Mall and is currently relocating to a larger, more presitigious unit in a more central part of the Mall. Perhaps it's the business analyst in me but as I walk round Meadowhall I've been very conscious of the business turnover, downsizing and 'movement' (for want of a better word) amongst businesses that are currently in residence. Perhaps it is just that long term leases are starting to come to an end but I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions as to whether premium selling space at out of town malls like Meadowhall and such like are actually proving to be financially viable in the long term.... even for the large national corporations.
  11. I used to have Goldfish which at first did close to 2p in the £1 cashback but this has since been reduced drastically to almost 0.7p in the £1. As a result I've stopped using Goldfish and now use a Tesco Finest Platinum card which allows me to collect Tesco Finance clubcard points everywhere I use it and on top of that I get the normal Clubcard points when I shop in Tesco. I also use &More when I shop in M&S. As for use abroad I always use my Nationwide card because there's no fees and the exchange rate is extremely competitive.
  12. Whilst I'm sure that the majority of us would agree that most people who take part in medical drug trials are in it purely for the financial incentive [and as such should be prepared for unpleasant side-effects] I'm quite certain that these men weren't told that the drug could be potentially lethal. £2000 certainly isn't enough for those sorts of risks! After all death is far more than just "unpleasant" [which could be applied to itching or mild headaches] - it's quite absolute. However, as most of them were incapacitated for such a long time and the effects were disproportionate to the remuneration that they initially received I feel that by principle they should be compensated for the discomfort and emotional distress that it has caused them. Large pharmaceuticals companies will eventually make millions from the mainstream introduction of such drugs and should be made to compensate those who have suffered so badly during the drugs development especially when they weren't told that this could happen. Whether the side-effect was foreseen or not these people were almost killed and the large corporation responsible should be held to account.
  13. What's the offered incentive to having a Sainsbury's credit card? Extra Nectar points? Cashback on purchases?
