  1. Gibson ES339 30/60 Gibson ES135 (for sale) Epiphone Sheraton with Duncan Phat Cats (for sale) Epiphone dot335 with Seth Lovers Ibanez Talman TM-71 Gold Top with Duncan Phat Cats (for sale) Guild F30 acoustic Turner travel guitar Currently looking to sell three of the above and get one of the new blacktop telecasters. Get thee behind me Satan! Been playing since 1977 (35 years). Learned the fourth chord three weeks ago. You....can....never...have...enough...guitars.
  2. Froggatt...but willing to travel. I'm into everything but will most often play blues / Tom Waits / jangly REM type stuff. Willing to try anything. Can learn it by listening to it. K
  3. Hi I'm the same - been playing for years but don't get out to play with other people much. I'm not looking to join a band because I haven't got the time to do it justice but would like to meet other musicians for informal sessions. 49 years old, acoustic and electric guitars, open mind and sense of humour. Based (very) south Sheffield. Keith
  4. Apparently, during the cold war, the USSR had a list of British targets for their missiles and Stoke on Trent was at the top of their list. The Americans had a similar list and there at the top was.....Stoke on Trent.
  5. There are 100 billion stars in our galaxy and 100 billion odd other galaxies. So that's 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible stars which could have planets supporting life, which could become intelligent, which could be staring out at us now wondering if we're worth talking to and if we have decent coffee and broadband access. The next nearest star is Proxima Centauri which is 4.5 light years away (about 27 million million miles by my reckoning). This is quite a long way, further even than Coventry or Droitwich. There is a theory that the inhabitants have been watching our TV broadcasts (albeit 4.5 years behind) and are just waiting to see how the final episode of Frasier pans out before launching the invasion force.
  6. The Bt Voyagers are rubbish but they work ok most of the time. If you've got two green arrows (and two green lights on the front of the Voyager) then the ADSL is up and working but your computer just needs to dial the connection. Did you get a CD which put an icon on the desktop saying 'connect to internet' or something similar? Failing that, go to Start, Settings, Network connections and there may be an option in there to dial broadband. If not, I can mail you a dialer that should work. Sorry if this isn't useful, it's a quiet day at work so I'm making a busybody of myself in the techie forums! Hope this helps. Keith
  7. But whatever ADSL provider you choose, they're going to be using the same BT copper cables back to the exchange so the difference is only in price. I used to get disconnected about 5-6 times a day with BT and their Voyager ADSL modem thingie. Now I've got a Cisco router and a wireless hub and that combination stays up all day, no problem. It's a bugger to configure though and not cheap. I suspect that these Voyager modems are cheap crap. Keith
  8. Okay so first I have to say that I'm very biased against McAfee because I've had some bad experiences with it. Did you download / change / install anything before it started? It might just be that there are some physical problems with disk or memory. Firstly, what version of Windows are you running? Secondly, run up Explorer, click on My Computer and check how much disk space you have left on drive C: Newer versions of Windows will tell you when they're running out of disk but the older ones (95/98 etc) are not so good. What I'd do is to go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove McAfee. Then (if you can) go to http://www.grisoft.com and download the free virus checker (AVG Free V7) and run it. Try running with that for a bit and see if it makes any difference. Might be worth a try. Keith
  9. Hi. I'm an IT contractor living in Hathersage and working....everywhere except Sheffield. The bottom line is that I don't think there are any agencies in Sheff that can help you. Contracts do come up in Sheffield from time to time but you'll generally hear about them through Jobserve.co.uk and the agencies will be based elsewhere (usually Manchester or London). Since I've lived here I've worked in Bristol, Manchester and Leeds. Good luck anyway. Keith
  10. Hi The brill thing about sheff is that the Peak district is right on the doorstep. If you're into walking try the Sheffield 20s and 30s walking group. They pick up in town every Sat / Sun and they're very good fun to boot (or 'in boots' maybe?) http://www.sheffieldwalkinggroup.org.uk/ Just say that Keith and Carol led you there (more kudos is always handy)! Keith
  11. And why is the competition only open to women? I'd like to enter. I'm 43.97 years old, 34 waist, 15 collar, size 9 wide fitting shoes and I like working with children and animals. Or children raised by animals. If I won I would bring about world peace. Vote now.
  12. ...and they're conifers too which aren't native. They plant them really close together so nothing can grow under them due to the lack of light. So good riddance! Of course they'll plant some more, if the soil holds out. It's the price we pay for printing our email, buying a newspaper every day and not using dock leaves to wipe our sensitive areas! Anyway, lots of the peak is covered in deciduous woodland and the bluebells are out at the moment and so is the gorse but you have to get out of the car to see 'em.
  13. In that case: Curse you BT and your poxy expensive unreliable broadband service. Worth a try...
