Norfolk Park - what is it like to live near here
Fantomas replied to Beats52's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Similar situation, moved to Seabrook Road from Meersbrook about 7 years ago. Nice area, not had much trouble (and none at all in the last few years), and is definitely changing character for the better. Local shops, schools, pubs and amenities could be better but they'll get there. Overall, I'm happy living here and love being easy walking distance from the station and town. -
If you're after a starter electric, you can't go far wrong with either a Squier or a Yamaha Pacifica. Under £200 and won't be an unplayable heap. Also lots of scope for upgrading the electrics etc if he's into that.

My bin's just been emptied as normal (Norfolk Park) so....*shrugs*.

I recently took my Fender Telecaster 72 Custom to Rich Tone for a setup and general going over and was very pleased with the results, it's definitely playing much nicer now. Wasn't outrageously expensive either - about £30 plus strings.

I've never heard of it before. After a quick google, I'd probably substitute it with mooli/daikon instead - you can get it in the larger supermarkets or any chinese grocers.

Akbars New Sheffield Restaurant - West One

Tells me all I need to know. Not for me! -
"Despite having to absorb increasing costs" - Which costs? I thought fuel was going down in price? It may be there are other costs they're referring to but some transparency wouldn't go amiss.

I've used it a bit - it's terrific when you've got your head around it. My recommendation is have a look on YouTube - there's loads of decent tutorials and walk throughs. Here's one for instance: The online forums at http://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20 are also great if you're after some very specific advice on something that's causing you an issue.

Derek Dooley way - roadworks commencing 8th Feb 2015
Fantomas replied to small_hall's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Yes, it is an admission that the original design wasn't optimal. But expecting something as complex as as road systems and traffic flows to be 100% on the first go is completely unrealistic - all the experience and modelling software in the world can't predict exactly what will happen. You can only tend towards a perfect solution, you can never actually get there. I think it's a positive thing that the council are prepared to look at existing layouts and tweak them where improvements can be made. Would it be better if they ignored it? -

If you'd looked at the plans you'd see that the changes also include removing a cycle lane and changing a road from one way to work in both directions, plus an additional bus gate to remove buses from the main flow of traffic. All seems pretty sensible to me, but that doesn't suit the agenda of the moaners brigade. -
New University Building.. What austerity?
Fantomas replied to Tommo68's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Here's a breakdown of the university's funding - the council have nothing to do with it. https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/finance/staff-information/howfinanceworks/higher_education/money The university attracts students (26000 of them or thereabouts), putting millions of pounds of money into the local economy. I think they're dead right to build facilities that are attractive to prospective students and make them look like the world class institution that they are. But you're right, they could have built a big box and plodded along with no sense of ambition just to please the locals. -
If they've got such a bad reputation because of the previous owner, a change of name would probably be a good idea.

2014/2015 Snow & Winter Weather MegaThread
Fantomas replied to alternageek's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
It's a forecast, not a guarantee. By and large they get it spot on - snow in particular is a nightmare to forecast accurately. -
Venues in sheffield that pay for cover bands
Fantomas replied to dean thom's topic in Sheffield Musicians
I'd have a look at The Hop in West One - they have cover bands on at the weekends. West Street Live too.
