Hi we have an old Jack Russell bitch 'Peggy' (she's 17 now) who is not eating very well, she is being sick a lot. The vet advised us to use a renal food but she won't eat it. Does anyone know of a easily digested canned dog food other than Chappie. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

chappie is about the blandest you can get, 3dog, especially if you go for the chicken-and-rice flavour.

My dog (terror cross , I mean terrier cross lol, 12 and a 1/2 yrs old,) has suffered from colitis all his life, and unfortunately, cannot tolerate red meat-based foods, and has to have the chicken and rice option.

I find, for my dog, that chappie is most suitable, and causes him least trouble. (certain science diet varieties, from the vet are very similar to chappie, you could try them, although it is quite a pricey option)

I think you should send a PM to the site mangement asking for a name change, cos it sounds as if you are soon going to be 2dogs

That is really insensitive, and well out of order.

I quite agree, jokes are one thing, but there is a time and a place.

Back to the original question. My dogs don't like chappie, so if they are off their food, I usually feed them home cooked chicken and boiled rice, I have also cooked them pasta and put tuna in with it. I would check with your vet first to make sure they are suitable for your dogs condition.

Thankyou for the kind words and help except for owdlad who can get stuffed. I have got some chappie and the old girl has gone mad for it, I had to feed it to her myself as she would have gorged it down one go. She doesn't like pasta or scrambled egg or mashed spuds and she is off boiled chicken but will eat turkey.

Thanks to everybodys help and kind words. Sadly it's bad news we had to take Peggy to the vets last wednesday (12th of April) and had to leave her. She had a good life and will be sorely missed, we had 16 and a bit years together and now theres a big gap.

Whats up, you got fed up following other forum users around reminding them about their previous shoplifting forays.

So sorry to hear that, 3dog.... My sympathies.

Still, take comfort knowing you did your best by her, in all ways, and you did not let her suffer.

She obviously had a happy, and very loved life with you, which is something not every "pet" can boast of...
