Talisman also for me - got boxes of the sets and expansions....must dig them out and start training my eldest in the way of the geek.

I've recently been introduced to Catan, Small World, and other board games via the excellent "Tabletop" show on Geek & Sundry channel online ( http://tabletop.geekandsundry.com/ ). Basically the show is Wil Wheaton and a few buddies playing a board game - kind of like celeb poker, only funnier and geekier. Latest show covered 'Ticket To Ride' and I have become amazingly addicted to the ipad version of the game now. Must pick up the board game some time soon.

Also, Killer Bunnies, just for fun and novelty..

Ticket to Ride looks interesting Beakerzoid. I've been eyeing it up on iPad, but think I read a review saying it had no decent one player option. Is that so? Does it have a decent single player mode, playing against AI etc?

The single player mode works great. Can set multiple AI opponents to play against, and they can be quite a challenge at times. I guess the person who wrote the review got a bit confused as there are two sections to the game - the 'ticket' for quick play, and the 'station' for extras, stats, and multiplayer options. In the station you don't get a solo game...but the ticket has solo or multiplayer.

The multi-player options are good - online against randoms, local network against people, or a 'pass the pad' version for playing with folk in same room on one device.

I love and hate this game in equal measure...it's so addictive but brings out the worst in people (me)...and I never win!!!

I mostly played 2nd edition Talisman (same as 1st, but with colour cards, I believe). Did you guys get any issues relating to ambiguity in the rules? Or situations where the Wizard with the wand, would cast a gazillion spells in one turn?

Just played Ticket to Ride on iPad. Quite a good game (imagine the board game version would be better though), and nicely presented too.

The first and second editions of Talisman had quite a few instances of rule ambiguity, and usually ended up with arguments over specifics.

I also had third edition with expansions, which seemed to have less rule conflicts.

Have seen that there is a 4th edition available now which also has a ton of expansions already. May have to invest in that sometime soon.

Yep, there's a new expansion for 4th Edition coming out shortly called Blood Moon and it's got Day and Night features, plus werewolves. Looks great.

I'm off to the Birmingham Board Game Expo this weekend to check it out.

Recently it's been Agricola, because one of my friends is addicted to it. Play Carcassonne (sp?), Dominion (card game really), Stone Age, Power Grid, and Small World fairly regularly. Just bought Twilight Struggle but not played it yet.

Just come back from the UK Board Game Expo in Birmingham. Absolutely fantastic set of games; such an amazing bunch of talented game designers we've got!

Carcassonne is ace, but we've gotten a bit over-competitive over it in the past from playing too much. Partial to a bit of Catan too.

Anyone played Frustration?

Yes.

Me and some friends sometimes get together with our partners and play "Mazola Twister".

That's great fun but you need to be broad-minded and not bashful as it requires playing in ones swimming costume, covered in oil.
