Hi - Myself & a group of friends are visiting Sheffield in July & would like to try Clay pigeon Shooting or Archery as a group activity. Is there anywhere in the area that do such activities?

Thanks

I don't know of any specifically - but you could try asking re-enactment groups. They most likely have a cross over.

If in doubt, you could always try Sherwood Forrest. :D ;)

Try this link for just about every club, organisation in and around Sheffield.

http://dis.shef.ac.uk/help_yourself/

You should find at least Abbeydale Archers & there is my old club at Dronfiled, if they are still going. I think there is another at Tinsley and Brecks in Rotheham. Check the site for details.

If you have your own bow and just want to get in some practice once a month, two of us practice archery while the rest of my re-enactment group fight. We meet in the Tree Nursery at Norfolk Heritage Park - plenty of room, and no chance of hitting someone by accident (although if you can prove enough skill, the others will sometimes let you shoot at them:D )
No proper target, but plenty of random bits and pieces to use to sharpen your skill. Plus the two added bonuses of laughing at oddballs dressed in kit (quietly - they do have weapons, after all), and a trip down the pub afterwards.

For more info, try this link:

I've not heard of any Archery Clubs in Sheffield for a long time but I'm pretty sure there used to be some.

Off topic I know but does anyone know of any shooting clubs in sheffield?

There's a shooting club at Birdwell in Barnsley that we use regularly & I can recommend. Contact is Glenn on 01226 741577.
I'm not aware of any archery ones in Sheffield - we go down to Long Eaton in Derbyshire for our archery.

You could take aim at:

or take a look at this for more.

Last year at the Rotherham show I had a go at the archery which was run by members of some local club - I can't remember which but their home venue was Heringthorpe Leisure Centre.

I managed to pop two balloons on the target board and the guy who was showing me how to go on was trying to encourage me to join.

Anyway, I am fairly sure that the Rotherham Show is next weekend and they are there every year.

It would be worth your while going along.

Nothing like a spot of toxophily on a late summers afternoon with the sun setting behind you.

One thing that bugs me is why is the bloke (more often than not) in charge of starting and stopping the loosing of arrows called 'The Lady Paramount'? Not very PC is it?

Sheffield has one of the biggest Target Archery (as opposed to Field Archery) clubs in England.
They're called Abbeydale Archers and not surprisingly based at there.

If you want some details send me a PM.

As some have mentioned the Abbyeydale archers have a club.
I opened a thread asking for members of that club to come forward and tell me a little about it so I await any results from that.
That thread is on Sheffield chat. Meanwhile Losman I have signed up for a beginners course which is compulsory before taking up the sport.
The places go fast and course 1 (3 dates in May ) are already fully booked.
There are a few that are left for June but they are going fast.
I can send you an application form if you require but you will need to act fast.

Jumping on the bandwagon after watching "The Games" but i'd love to give it a try. Anybody know where I can go ( I am strictly a beginner so don't come within a 5 mile radius of the place...!)
