No I've not seen it, and I have no intention of doing so either... WAY too kiddy for me.

I saw the trailer for it and it looked like it was absolutely diabolical.

Anyway, I've been told by someone who's a massive Seuss fan, that while Dr. Seuss was alive he always refused to sell his stories to film makers. No matter how much money he was offered, he just said no. As soon as he died his family sold all of his stories and made a fortune. Because of this I wouldn't watch it on principal. That's if it's true of course, it might not be...

I saw this on Saturday with my daughter. I voted it "worst film ever" in a previous post. Previous worst (kiddies) film ever was "Thomas the Tank Engine". Both had Alec Baldwin in, perhaps that's the clue !

I remember TCITH from 35 years ago when I read it at school. I loved the book and from all accounts the film is a travesty. It seems that everything needs 'sexing up' these days. I some how think that a 'post modern' and 'knowing' Cat in the Hat is something that should be rapidly consigned to the bin.

Mr Myers is a clever fellow
But now he's made us Seuss fans bellow
The film attempts to be a hit,
But it seems instead to be a pile of...pooh.

I am a really big Dr Seuss fan, have been for years and have many of his books. I took 5 kids to see The Cat In The Hat on it's premier weekend. So what did I think?

Dr Seuss aside .......... it was a good, funny, entertaining film that all the kids (me included) really enjoyed. We all laughed from start to finish and not one of them said they were bored. Their ages ranged from 6 to 14, boys and girl and they all really loved it. They've asked since to see it again!!

Now ...... Dr Seuss!!

For me, it failed to capture the great man's talent. He was an incredibly imaginative writer and artist who obviously put a lot of thought into what he did and who it was for. His books have a certain innocence about them which was definately lost in the film. Parts of it were quite smutty (for want of a better word) and what happened to the rhymes? lol! I realise that to make a film based purely on the story of The Cat in the Hat would take a certain amount of padding but please!!!!! All that weird stuff about the box turning the house all weird etc? I know His books were creative and a little 'trippy' but that was too much.

For me, if i take it as a film, purely entertainment then it is fine. As a Dr Seuss story .......... no! If it was described as being *based* on The Cat in the Hat, fine, but it is *NOT* the story of The Cat in the Hat.

According to http://www.seussville.com - the official site from his publisher Random House - he made a cartoon version of The Grinch whilst alive [see Biography > Later Years > Other Media] and some 30 books have been adapted for TV or video

His widow created a company to oversee the production of books etc on new media such as CDs and licensing of characters whilst taking into account his wishes [see new media section]

I THINK there was a movie called 'The 5000 Fingers of Dr T.' which I believe was based on a story by 'Dr Seuss'. It was a weird black and white affair made in the 1950s...

I think the story was accredited to 'T Geissler' which I think is the real name of Dr S. But I may be wrong!

The film was made in 1953 and was in color according to the internet movie data base #:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045464/

Writing was by Dr Seuss and film had several titles :

Crazy Music (1953) (reissue title)
Dr. Seuss' 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953) (video title)
Five-Thousand Fingers of Dr. T., The (1953) (USA) (alternative spelling)

Looks kind of cool, may have to get a copy :P

Full filmography for the man himself can be found here : http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0317450/
