View Full Version : What Mobile Phone Do You Have & Why?
bigflesh 24-03-2006, 20:38 Forgive me if this has been done to death before, but, its the day of the mobility solution (is it not?) What I am keen to understand is what make of mobile you have and more importantly..... why.....
And I have a W550i on order. Not that thats got owt to do with it.
I think its a 6230i I have. relatively new ish (I think) - seems to do everying I need it to do and its basic.
I always find myself wanting a better one though. Annoying, isn't it? :(

very! thank god for the swap shop - ebay (keep your boxes!)
I have the Nokia 6101 on Vodafone contract, pretty good phone apart from the lack of bluetooth, best thing about it is that it works with my hearing aid without the need for one of those crappy annoying induction loop gadgets.
My contract's up for renewal next month as well, considering upgrading to the 6230, with bluetooth and a memory card for storing MP3s and stuff.
i have a motorola but only because its pink !! i do miss my nokia
Mine's a Nokia something or other. It allows me to talk and text. Allegedly it connects to the Internet but I haven't cracked that yet.
It was the cheapest pay as you go phone in the shop, which is an excellent reason to buy it. :)
It's a sort of duck-egg blue colour with a little green screen LCD display. As you may have gathered, it's not something I pay much attention to.
:)

joe... did you buy it about 7 years ago? lol.
joe... did you buy it about 7 years ago? lol.
About 18 months ago... :)
Prior to that I had a very old style Motorola, and before that....I can't remember.
In the early 1990s I had a Panasonic - that was when phones were REAL phones. You needed the muscles of Arnie's big brother to carry them. SHoulder pads? Nothing to do with fashion - that's where the spare batteries were kept. Make a call of more than 2 minutes on those things and you delivered enough radiation to your head to boil your brains. :)
Which probably explains a lot.
:D
I've just got a nokia 3220 cos i like the flashing lights :P Unfortunately as with everything that I buy it's not working properly so I've got to send it back
I like nokia though, easy to use.
I've had quite a few phones over the last few years, in the last 5 years I've had...
Nokia 3210 on Virgin pay as you go.
Sony Ericsson T300 on T-Mobile pay as you go
Nokia 3510i on O2 and EasyMobile pay as you go
Sony Ericcson T610 on Virgin pay as you go
Sony Ericcsons are the Playstations of the mobile phone industry IMO, the hardware is over-rated but loved up by fanboys, and the games on them suck arse.
Nokias however are the Xbox of the mobile phone world, so user friendly, work perfectly with my hearing aid, and have cool kick arse Java games and ringtones etc.
demoniac 24-03-2006, 21:42 in the last 2 years i've had
nokia 3510I
sagem something or other

Lindseyw 24-03-2006, 21:43 I have a Motorolla V3 - PINK !! Love it, but in all honesty it's crap !!
bjshooter 24-03-2006, 21:44 I have a Samsung sliddy uppy one:D see I know my phones. I have it because my boyfriend bought it me for Christmas, but I miss my old phone, a Sony ericson. My new one only has inferred and not bluetooth and it is very annoying:(
sparklygem 24-03-2006, 21:47 I have a Sony Ericsson W800i
A nokia 6230. Before that, an ericsson t630, before that a nokia 6610, before that a nokia 8310, before that a samsung a300, before that a nokia 7110, before that a nokia 3210, and before that a philips c12. You just cant go wrong with nokia. The softwares just so easy to use and intuitive. Out of all the phones Ive had, the non-nokias have never been with me for more than 6 months before Ive got rid and gone back to nokia.
Greybeard 24-03-2006, 22:18 I have a Motorola C115.
It's a telephone. It isn't an MP3 jukebox, or a digital camera, or a wireless internet connection, or a PDA. Just a plain old fashioned telephone :D
Cost me a whopping £20 including £5 call credit in TJ Hughes and damme if a fortnight after I bought it weren't they selling it for £10 with 100 free minutes
I think i can text on it but haven't figured out how, but anyway the buttons are too small to type on.
CherryNicole 24-03-2006, 22:21 I've got a samsung* and I got it because it was pink :D
*insert geeky numbers here :D
mr craig 24-03-2006, 22:27 SE750i. I like the menu lay-out on SE's but the software always seems a bit rushed. I had to get mine flashed a few time before it stoped crashing. Plus side, great cam, very easy to use and the battery will last you a week.
Currently I have three. One for one job, one for another and one for me. I don't know what they are I just know they ring a lot.
I've got a nokia 6600, I won't entertain any other make of phone, I've had it for well over 12 months simply because I can't find another one that I like at the moment.
demoniac 24-03-2006, 22:31 I have a Motorolla V3 - PINK !! Love it, but in all honesty it's crap !!
my brother has the same one but in black and i love to annoy him about it

V3! the hellish ugly flat faced V3 with NO BRAINS! Makes me think.... motorola bob in factory.... "do we still have 2.4 million silver ones left?" to manager in factory..... manager replies....."do we have pink paint?"...... motorola bob... "errrr pink? will it work?" manager in factory...... "it did for the wifes bedroom"......... motorola bob in factory..... "we can do pink!"..... manager in factory..... "i'll get you that company car you wanted if we shift them! (2.4 million)..... echo effect.... "how about a slightly better camera?"
And all because it went pink. Maybe pink is the new brown. ewwww.

you need a holiday :)
bigflesh 24-03-2006, 22:50 you need a holiday :)
2 weeks in Gran Canaria? I understand THEY USE THE MOVIESTAR network over there.
Lindseyw 24-03-2006, 22:58 movie star network ?
EdnaKrabappe 24-03-2006, 23:07 I need a new one in fact that is tomorrow morning's job.
I've got a black Nokia with rubber cladding on it- can't remember the silly numbers for it. I got it because I have balance problems and fall over quite often, and I need to use the phone to summon help if I fall- so I don't want a flimsy thing that I break in falling.
I assume it's the one that is used by builders cos it's got an illuminated spirit level on it (was there ever a more useless bit of kit?).
Beakerzoid 25-03-2006, 04:36 Mine is a Moto Razr. I like the look, and design of the phone, and it works a treat. Not a fan of Nokia phones, so avoid them. Can have games on my phone, but don't really see the point.
I'm due to extend contract in a few months.

But do you not feel like youre talking into a CD case when you use it?
Greybeard!
A man after my own heart!
I like my technology to be as simple as possible that's commensurate with doing the job - a sort of Occam's Razor applied to equipment.
Less to go wrong, less expense to replace, no one will want to steal it, etc.

johnbradley 25-03-2006, 08:19 i have a sony ericcson k600,
not a bad phone, but its pretty quiet, memory's a bit small on it and it looks like a remote control.
3g tho, so i can watch crap clips about the latest vacuous celebrity idiots - great.
actually, its got a radio, which is pretty decent, but ive lost the special earphones that come with it -(
Nokia 6230. I think. people may differ. but I think Nokia are the best !
I have had mine exactly a year. it is a bit idiot proof. easy to use.
I am wanting to change it now. not sure what there is, what the latest ones are.
Greybeard 25-03-2006, 12:11 ive got a 6230i
A mobile phone with fuel injection ? What will they think of next :D
I have a nokia for work and I have a motorla V560 which I use in conjunction with BT Fusion
I have a motorola Razr in hot pink, I got it for my 18th birthday and I love it soooo much.
Its a bit hard to text on though, but has a great camera, bluetooth, and its my favourite colour!
2 weeks in Gran Canaria? I understand THEY USE THE MOVIESTAR network over there.
They do!! Ah I love Gran Canaria - in the middle of looking at jobs over there at the mo!
Jimbob1989 25-03-2006, 12:22 Have a sony ericsoon t610. I choose it because its reasonably robust, but look nice too, has a camera (wish that was a bit better though), has bluetooth. Fits snuggly in the zipo holder on my jeans :D oh and the guy at o2 gave me a family and friends discount even though I'd never met him ;)
just got a LG u880 as I am now on pay monthly the phone came free it is a superb phone but I be grudge having to pay for extra downloads like new ringtones or games and they dont come cheap, if I had known it was going to be like this then I wouldnt have bothered I would have stuck to my nokia N70, but as my girlfriend as now got it she wont give it back to me. so I am have got stick with this one mind you for the first 6 months I only pay £22.00 then after it is £45.00 a month but you get 600 mins talk time 300 text messages 50 mins video talk time plus other things that I wont need and I am on 3 use to be 02, I have tried all the mobile sites but I do like 3's mobile site.
Draggletail 25-03-2006, 14:48 Samsung e700 flip phone,
Why? Because my sister in law only wanted £30 for it 15 months ago when her contract expired :D
bigflesh 25-03-2006, 14:51 A mobile phone with fuel injection ? What will they think of next :D
mines a straight v8, with polyphonic ming tones
bornfree 25-03-2006, 15:46 ive got a blue motorola razr v3. Because it was blue.
bornfree 25-03-2006, 15:53 Did you know that Nokia phones originated in finland. In a small town called Nokia.
some people think they were form germany.
Beakerzoid 25-03-2006, 16:05 But do you not feel like youre talking into a CD case when you use it?
Nah....but I do imagine I am talking into a communcator from Star Trek! (I even have a star trek "Transfer of data is complete" message alert)
Damn...I'm such a geek!
My phone is a Cellnet / O2 halfbrick and is about 7 years old. It is pay as you go and because I hardly ever use it it costs about £20 a year to run. No-one would ever try to nick it because its so old the battery charger has to be ordered direct from Philips. And if someone did try to mug me I could use it to smash their skull in. It has no tunes, downloads, stupid games or annoying beeps. Its just a phone.
Kirsty_87 25-03-2006, 17:35 Iv got a Sony Ericsson K700i. Iv been through alot of phones in the past. My phone MUST have a camera, mp3 player and bluetooth, with enough memory too. Im quite picky when it comes to phones
I have a Nokia 6230i. No way I'm getting another Nokia for a while, the finish is awful on it (shiny silver paint is peeling off, leaving me with nasty white plastic) and the menus/software take foreeeeveeeeer to do anything when you press a button. The two Sony Ericssons I had were much better.
To be honest I have never used the camera that it has, I've never played an mp3 through it and have never used the bluetooth in it. I think it might be time for a simpler one next time :) In fact I think it's time to go back to PAYG, I've been upgrading the phones purely because I'm on a contract, and these days I get bugger all calls on it!
bigflesh 25-03-2006, 17:55 My phone career.... first phone was a Motorola analogue brick on PAYGO. The ariel pulled out and reception was shoddy. Next up, Orange branded Siemens brick which was a joy to use (not), next, a Nokia 5110 - a real innovation where one night I was messing about with it and discovered to my delight that I could text my friend (who was sat in opposite chair). Then followed torrents of text abuse to one another. Made for a good evening. Next up was the stylish (at the time) Nokia 6110, finished in purple. Next, a Nokia 3110 (wow - it was small for the times), followed by Nokia 6120. Then followed by a Blackberry. Then followed by a Sony Ericsson P910i smart phone. Then followed by the innovative Motorola V3 RAZR (before it went pink!) in silver. Then followed by a Sanyo S750i 3G smart phone and finally..... as I stand at the moment.....
A Sony Ericsson W550i
Hmmm, more phones than sense!
ToryCynic 25-03-2006, 19:19 Originally I had Nokias, then switched to an Alcatel, then mvoed to SEs - had a P800, but cracked the screen - gnash, gnash - 'down'graded to an S700i - and I'm one of the types that use all features from simple 'phoning to GPRS.
P.S: I'm still in existance - just on dodgy dial-up!
:)
About 18 months ago... :)

LOL So very true !!!
chocotiger 26-03-2006, 09:16 I have a Nokia 7610.
Its a bit bulky but I got it for a good price from a mate after he had a free upgrade. It has everything I need from a phone.
Bluetooth, I transfer everything to my PC.
Mp3
1meg pix Camera
Video
web browser
Memory card so I can store lots of photos & tunes.
My T-Mobile contract was costing me a fortune so Ive now switched to a 02 Genie card. I top up £10 a month and get 300 free text.
