Whoa...Don't do a Google image search for it :o

Never heard of it before. What sort of game is it? Not another Rift is it?

It is a fantasy based MMO like all the above.. however it's combat mechanics are totally different.

It's not a tab to target, static combat like most other MMO's.. it's much more fluid and kinda 'twitch' based.. in that you have to keep aim on your targets with your "crosshairs" and your character needs to be facing your enemy to strike. The game devs call tout it as "true action combat".. not sure if it's quite that, but it's certainly different and enjoyable..

Quite how long it remains that way remains to be seen.. :hihi:

Well i pre-ordered. Played it and initally thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Looks beautiful and the combat was different than all the other mmos.
However after a few days the repetitiveness of this game got the better of me and friends i know. Combat got really stale and boring like the quests. zones were copy and paste of one another and mobs look all the same.

Crafting goes nowhere, World PVP is non-existent and gets tiresome. Item drops are dull and armour and weopons look the same throughout the game.

I tried Rift got bored, LOTR bored me too, tried SWTOR and got even more bored. WOW was the only mmo to hold my attention however since the wrath of the Lich king it has changed for the worse.

Guild Wars 2 is the last hope this year but i won't hold my breath either.

Can I recommend dcuo as an alternative. If you haven't played it give it a go.

Yep, not sure of the longevity of Tera myself.. the combat I'm still enjoying a great deal, but I'm not sure there's enough there to keep me entertained indefinitely.

However in your case, I think I'd be giving the entire MMO genre a miss for a good while.. seems you're just burned out on them.. and I'd be very surprised if GW2 turns out to be some kind of magical saviour for the genre. Either that or just accept that in future you're going to play MMO's relatively short term.

I think this is the general trend for most people these days, there aren't many people willing to invest the time and effort they did on their first MMO or two (whatever they were)... because no matter what we've all done it all before. So basically once you've levelled and seen most of the high level content you move along to the next game.. forgoing the 'end-game' grinds and timesinks.

I really enjoyed Tera up to level 20. What did it for me was killing those 10 basilisks near the Bastion of Lok entrance. The first few were entertaining but after the fifth one i just felt it was getting really repetitive dodging attacks and using the same attack moves. Plus these BAMS(bad ass monsters) can take an eternity to kill if your not grouped up. After those basilisk quests there were similar other BAM quests in other areas. I couldn't face killing ten more of these timesink monsters. Then another ten etc etc
Also after doing the Bastion of Lok instance a few times i really it was nothing special. Not much imagination went into that. Rooms and more rooms with mobs in them. Maybe i've been spoilt playing through the imaginative WOW dungeons from its beginning.
As for combat there's just too many buttons and half your keys can't be assigned to what suits you best.
I grant that the community is there but i'm not sure how long people will stay when GW2 comes. A korean grindfest can be shortlived.

I'm currently playing Diablo 3 and having a blast. Ok people slag Blizzard off but they can make some fun games. Its not a MMO but its a fantastic fun game. easy interface and great when playing with a friend. Plus you can put it down at the bat of an eyelid. Hard to do that when your tanking through an instance lol.:hihi:

The BAM quests aren't integral to the story though, they are simply side quests, meant to be done as a group.. they're added to encourage group play rather than the general trend for soloing. Group up and they really don't take that long, and can be quite fun (unless you're a beserker which can at times be quite frustrating).

BoL, is a basic starter dungeon again I think designed to get people used to working as a team as they need to in Tera, because some of the mechanics are really quite different to standard MMO fare in groups.. especially for the likes of tanks, healers and support. I've only done each dungeon twice thus far because I'm levelling far ahead of the curve.. you say korean grindfest? I say xp shower, I'm levelling much too fast without really trying.

Maybe i've been spoilt playing through the imaginative WOW dungeons from its beginning.

I'd say more than likely, and if you compare every MMO you play in future to how you enjoyed WoW from it's beginnings (or similarly any other MMO from early in its life if it was your first long term game) I think you're likely to be disappointed.

As for combat there's just too many buttons and half your keys can't be assigned to what suits you best.

That's subjective and really dependent on the hardware you posses.. I've a Logitech G700 Mouse (10+ buttons) along with a Logitech G13 Gamepad, and G19 Keyboard.. I really dont have any issues with keys (except perhaps I have too many in front of me ;))

I think this pretty much sums it up.. steer clear of MMO's for a while maybe even permanently, I think you're likely setting yourself up to be disappointed otherwise, when you can be entertained with other genres :)

Indeed i think i'm burnt out on the themepark MMO unless something new come to the table. I had such high hopes for SWTOR but after ten years of development and millions they produced a static lifeless world, which is really baffling. What were the devs thinking?
Completely agree that the WOW formula is within me. Everything does have an uncanny way of being compared to WOW. Probably the reason i enjoy Diablo 3 so much as i'm in my blizzard comfort zone.
However ask yourself this question? If you maxxed out in Tera could you face levelling up another character? In WOW i maxxed just about every character with high gear scores etc and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I agree if Tera is your first MMO your going to love it. At least you've got nothing to compare it you. Not even a kill ten rats quest lol.:hihi:

I've never really been one for multiple alts in any game, even LoTRO which was my first MMO, that I played for 4 years from beta. I eventually succumbed when they created the Warden & Runekeeper classes, but then I played them only on and off.

The problem with Tera in that respect, is that everybody no matter the class/race is funnelled through the same zones which I guess if you're an alt-o-holic would be seriously tedious, and unless they get their endgame sorted they're going to struggle.

Rift was pretty much the same though, unless you switched factions.. good thing about Rift was the class flexibility which means a) alts could be kept to a minimum b) made it a little bit more bearable to create an alt. And Rift was pretty much all about end-game grinds anyway..

I've come to the conclusion like I alluded to earlier, that I'll not have that long term 'relationship' like I had with LoTRO again.. I soon get bored on the hamster wheel these days.

My enjoyment comes from the 'exploration' of new worlds, so I'll play an MMO, level up.. hit some of the end-game raids etc, but once I've seen them/beaten them once or twice I'll consider moving on.

I'll probably get GW2, but I've no expectations of it.. other than I expect it will look pretty, looking further ahead Archeage looks an interesting prospect (as well as it looks pretty), and Trion World's probably deserve another look in when they release Defiance, which is another novel combat system supposely.

HAve to say my enjoyment also comes from exploration and the unknown. Sadly this is what is lacking from the MMO industry nowadays. Imagine what Star Trek online and Star Wars could have been like? Exploring new solar systems and colonies would have been mental rather than being railroaded on a quest line like everyone else.
An MMO with exploration as its main agenda might break the stale sandbox MMo genre. Its there for the taking if someone would be brave enough. I'd happily pay a sub to boldy go where no mans gone before
