Something iv always wondered about S-f is how it works.

I'm pretty sure it must run on 2 dedi's.. One for SQL and one for PHP... A forum this size must need some highish spec servers to run smoothly.

Another thing is bandwidth. How much bandwidth do you think they eat in a month? Surely its in its TB's.

So this is me been nosey. Anyone else wondered this?

The best way to find out about this would be to ask the admins, via the Helpdesk.

You can be as nosy as you like- whether you get an answer is another matter, of course ;)

I know that SF does run on more than one dedicated server (you're right- way too big to run on just AN Other machine) and I know where those servers are and the company that maintains them and keeps them online for us, but that's where my involvement ends.

If you wanted any of the technical answers then you'd have to ask the site owner since he does all the stuff that surrounds the way the forum works- I just do the cuddly end (that's all of you lot!).

Suck up :hihi: (cuddly)

Thanks for replying. I might just PM him. I'm only been nosey because I'm interested.. Id love to own a forum this size but it inst just getting the people on.. Its keeping them. (Not going on power trips etc)

Good Job though :D

You don't think the idea of a spectrum with an IP address and root password is amusing?

Oh well, your loss.

I found it amusing.

But I found you stupidly taking it seriously and responding much more amusing

You've given me an idea.

I wonder how hard it would be to dissasemble one and fit a USB keyboard into it and retro-fit a RasPi.

To the outside world it'd look like a Speccy running Fedora.
