I mean we have private health care systems, could you not have a private police force?
Then again insurance
Its just, there have been countless numbers of people on here recently complaining how the police do absolutely nothing about the appauling behaviour of some people and wondered :D
I know what you mean....they wouldn't have the powers the police have though, I guess?
Internetowl 22-03-2006, 15:16 they are already commonplace in the US - its only a matter of time, then the problems will really begin.
Security guards in effect.
Having no powers of stop and search and very limited powers of arrest.
The concept of citizens arrest is valid you know, you are just more vulnerable to a prosecution for false arrest than a policeman.
If we punished more then crime would be less.
Would you break the law if an officer could kick the crap out of you? i know i wouldnt.
No, then again, I don't break the law with the current deterrant... do you?

any older forumers recall the rhino whipping at attercliffe police station ?
BoroughGal 22-03-2006, 15:32 It would be open to corruption (or, to suit some of you, more open to corruption :D ). Especially if there was a "bonus scheme" for arrests made.
Jimbob1989 22-03-2006, 15:33 The only problem is that the prisons are full too, so where would they go. I think private police forces would be a really good idea though, aslong as they had somewhere to put the detainies. Prison isn't much a deterant anymore though, its more like a business course, where you just learn to do more than you could before you went in and those who go in, don't stay aslong as they use to.
The police don't put people in prison, you have to have a trial before that happens.
Isn't a private police form also known as a militia ?

Yeah. But the police arrest you and provide the evidence needed for you to be put on trial. But thats another thing, we need more course :D can they be private too.

wasnt there talk about sending prisoners to other countries to do their time
allotting so much money per prisoner
Jimbob1989 22-03-2006, 15:51 Ok, here is my argument.
If you had a private police force, like private health care, it would take the strain off the public police force. Police would arrive to incidents quicker, wether you had public or private coverage. The only problem would be things like insurance, corruption and making sure that keeping the peace is done honestly and effectively.

I'd not heard that, interesting though :)

I understand what you're saying, but theres a fundemantal difference - private hospitals almost never provide acute emergency care and response services - A&E - because there isn't the need. If you have an emergency problem, you'll almost always need to use an NHS hospital.
A private police force could work in the same way - providing investigative services and maintaining a presence - but then they become a security company, which is what we already have...
pk014b7161 22-03-2006, 15:58 i think it would be a good idea let them spend some time having some russian hospitality i dont think they would be many re offenders. its suprising are far them russians would make a tin of soup go
Who exactly is supposed to pay for this? :) If it's a case of paying to get a specific crime dealt with, you're taking about private detectives - I guess they must exist in this country, although I've never seen or heard about any!
Would it be possible to have a private police force?
:D
we have already got a police farce why do we need a private police farce?
would they go to private parties & perform ?:hihi:
Have you seen the state of some of our police officers? they are stick thin and about as tough as netto super glue.
Wouldnt it be better if some of our police were trained some sort of kick boxing ect, it would take away the strain of 5 police officers trying to hold down 1 man.
