what would you all like to see in the next gen of consoles. i.e the next playstation and next xbox?

i certainly would like to see reliability to be a strong point. the 360 got off to a bad start with the red ring of death, then as all the playstation 3 gamers was laughing, the ps3 decide to go in the same direction with the similar yellow light of death.

i suppose as tech gets more complicated and the processing power gets greater, things are going to get a lot hotter and problems will occur more and more.
but the design and position of components really need some tough testing, expose them to extreme temperatures then cool them right down and repeat the process and see how they get on, look for the weak parts to ensure reliability is going to be on their side.

i dont think the current gen of console had a tough enough testing. i think they was rushed.

i would also like to see the manufacturers concentrate more on the gaming side and cut the extra rubbish out that people dont need such as a web browser and all things like that .

at this moment in time, i cant really think of anything i would like to see on the features and technical side. but if any of you guys have any thoughts on what should be added to the next gen then fire away.

what would you all like to see in the next gen of consoles? If they, like handhelds, are to survive as a business model/proposition (in the face of smartphones and tablets), then I'd like to see what these two formats (phones/tablets) cannot offer, in terms of gaming/interface/experience - otherwise there won't be another gen.

At the risk of looking stupid (again  :hihi:), or at least sounding like a broken record, that could be VR.

IMHO, the normal progression for gamer/machine/game interaction (after motion control, successfully mass-introduced with the Wii, and improved with Kinect/Move), now that components/hardware have reached a reasonable cost/performance ratio.

Bundle glasses/visors as a loss-leader, sell extra glasses/visors at premium, all the advantages of the Vectrex at the time and all handhelds since (no monopolising the lounge HDTV), an experience which no other format can do/offer in a plug-&-play fashion, and right along the lines of what I expect to be the next main human/machine evolution (AR).

The manufacturers will continue to add features like that and film streaming, youtube, facebook etc etc as a way to persuade non-gamers that the machine may be good for them too. Even if they just play an occasional game.

I can't see them stopping the addition of things like that.

I'd like to see more effort in backward compatibility myself. So many of the new shooters are similar enough for me not to bother. I would even be prepared a pay a few quid per game for the ability to play my older games.

buttons and twin sticks! And real games like the vita will have black ops two with online multiplayer where as the tablet/phones have modern combat :hihi:

I know I'll get accused of fanboyish trolling for this but I'm posting so yeh.

I've played PS Move, and IMO even the Wii Remote is more accurate, not to mention the games for PS Move all suck donkey balls compared to Kinect's launch line up (even though I don't care much for dancing games).

Kinect is rubbish while ps move has 3 house of the dead games that IMO makes a million percent better.

I would like some better protection on the actually software, upgraded hacking protection, there are tooooo many good games getting ruined by hackers. COD is rediculous and i used to really enjoy COD 4 and WAW, the later ones were ok but hacked from the offset, now there a mess and it ruins it for everyone else.

Also i'm kind of sick of all the adverts and stuff being added to the consoles, i have an xbox 360 and the latest dashboard update added a ton of like advertizing boxes/ additional features, new features are great ... if you want them. I think there should be more flexability with the design of your own consoles main pages, i'd like to remove 90% of the stuff on the xbox 360s dashboard because i don't use it and i'd like it to be simpler... i bought the console and all the games for the rediculous prices, don't make me see all your adverts too.

Watch this space (http://oculusvr.com/). They reckon 2013 for the first retail version, I'll give them some benefit of the doubt and say 2014 - all being well.

Carmack (id), Newell (Valve) and Bleszinski (GoW) are the most 'notables' behind this.

;)

And what about the disabled? those that have sight problems?

that's where consoles need to head, add more 'disabled friendly' features and games/capabilities...

The ONLY thing I want to see, which has fluttered around at the periphery of gaming, is Virtual Reality.

We've got so much amazing technology now, I can't see why this hasn't been taken further.

And what about the disabled? those that have sight problems? In the word 'videogames', there is the suffix 'video'.

Sorry Ghozer, but not all professions/activities/pastimes/hobbies/etc. can ever all-inclusive. Particularly when the 'exclusion is attributable to their inherent (core, one might say) characteristics.
that's where consoles need to head, add more 'disabled friendly' features and games/capabilities...Touch-based and motion-based gaming has gone a long way towards that, I would argue.

Allt he same, you have to accept that, where commercial game and hardware developments are concerned, commercial imperatives/reality comes first and foremost (e.g. how would a developer recoup R&D & development expense for a "videogame for the blind" on current platforms, considering labour, equipment and licensing costs?)

I don't mean to sound harsh or discriminatory, but well...call it a good dose of common sense.
