Went to it once back when it was the Roundhouse - it was absolutely dire back then, haven't found any particularly appealing reason to go back since.

i havent been of late, but the leadmill have taken over the promoting of it for the next wee while, as the city hall is closing for refurb. hot pants etc is moving into it, and i think theres plans for lots of one off events as well. its a good move by the leadmill, as it at least ensures we dont lose more nites due to another venue closing (albeit temporarily)

I went in a couple of times when it was Roundhouse too. About 5 years ago it wasn't bad but then a couple of years later it was terrible. What kind of place it is now?

Took a group last Sat & they closed at 12.30am & gave us our money back as there were more staff than customers!

right folks standing up for aqua here as it was BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND last week i will state the reason aqua was quiet was because the lack of numbers around town. yes a refund was given and really was a good will gesture. the night could have contined all night, but as the descion was made so others could move to another venue, this was the case.
as in may hotpants will be moving to the aqua club on a full time basis, there will also be other nights starting fridays, watch this space.
tonight we are open and the night is scandelous.
we have more bar offers accross the bar.

Was that for hot-pants last saturday !?

I think they are moving it to aqua from the city hall ballroom ... which is like 1,000,000 times better than aqua.

no it was scandelous and yes maybe in your oppinion cityhall is better but you got used to it, give it some time and you will see the difference. the bar is cheaper as well

my opinion of aqua is not good ... it is dusty (have done circuits and exercise classes there) ... also the layout / shape is not brill ... and if the management from ponds forge have anything to do with the running of the place ... god help it !!!

simjns

you seem to have a grudge about pondsforge? as a building that gets used in the day, have you ever been to another nightclub when the house lights are on, i know this as i have worked at other venues, cairos was a real dive once the lights came on, and going back to aqua. the dust, if this was a problem then why do other promoters come to us for nights?
and as for the design, well thats being altered all the time

no i don't have a grudge against ponds forge ... i just think the management there are not on the ball ...

i go quite often ... maybe 4 times a week ... and classes are always being cancelled and choped and changed around.

often an instructor will not realise a class is cancelled until he / she turns up to take it ...

the general feeling amongst people who go there regular is that the management of the place is poor ... even some of the instructors share this view.

it's not a grudge ... it's just how it is.

as for the dusty floor ... i do notice it ... in my eyes and nose ... almost makes me wanna sneeze ... although I do have hayfever so this may not be a prob for most people.

i don't have a grudge against anyone tho ... if something is crap ... i am not going to say it's good ... how would that be helpful !?

thank you for the above comments, with regards to the chopping and changing i can only appologise to you, as a busy international centre that accomadates swimming events and events like the games, i will say that in the need to accomadate such events it is essential that things do get moved around to accomadate all, as for your instructors they are told of all changes in advance, anyone wanting to complain about such changes should air their views to the following

Helen Broadbent
Pondsforge manager
Pondsforge Leisure centre
sheaf street
sheffield

without telling people what you think can not lead to improvement, i thank you for your comments and will see that the relevant people know what problems people have discussions over

Did anyone else find this thread absolutely strange. I mean slmjns starts off by asking:
anyone ever been to aqua? if so what do u think is it worth going? heard its run by leadmill so must be ok!

Which would make one think he has nothing to do with the place right? And then within a handful of replies, without an excuse, he is an expert on the state of Aqua, has a definite opinion on whether it is 'worth going', and damned if by the end it doesn't seem that he runs the place.

Come on simjns...I expect at least a modicum of effort in duplicitous threads.

excuse me for asking the question whats the mattre bored?
i asked because i wanted an honest anwser your approach to my methods is offending, yes i work there i wanted results to see from my point of view if there was something that i could do to make aqua better. from your point of view you quiz my judgement

Yep I noticed that too ... but didn't mention it.

I guess he was just using the forum to guage public opinion about Aqua ... and maybe to stir up interest / business to a degree.

Hardly crime of the century ... but I do think we should everyone on sheffield forum get free entry tho ...

hey you help me il help you i could arrange a free night, and yes the way i put the opening question, did look like i was asking as an outsider that was my plan, if i said hey i work at aqua what do you think i could do know what i mean, my way i get constructive reports, sorry for offening as well.

Excellent, free entry :D Well it may be enough motivation for some of us to go down and check it out....willing to sponsor a SheffieldForum meet simjns?

I know hardly the crime of the century. I don't really mind, I just thought it was humourous. Wouldn't it have worked just as well to remain anonymous? or to say from the beginning, "I'm from Aqua and am wondering what you all think". Maybe I'm naive ;)

the best time to check us out is when hot pants becomes resident with us, as with free entry i will see what i can do, we are in the middle of change and the night we have on at the moment is about to be phased out so hense not that busy, once we officially open i will sort something out. thats my promise

That sounds like an idea simjns. Keep us updated then

And if you don't we're all such tight bastages we won't forget :D

i didn't mind either ... about the slight deception when he was asking for feedback on aqua.

plus if we get free entry and it's a good night ... word of mouth will prob promote the place better than anything.

just seems great business sense to me ... i should get a job on your promotions team !! (only joking).

good luck with the place anyway dude :-)

this coming friday is step on indie night run by leadmill usually once a month,
saturday is scandelous, once hotpants becomes resident this will go
hotpants is a 70's night that was on at city hall.
reflective is on 30th april 10pm to 6am i think the music is garage. but not sure as yet as this is a new night to me.
there other events being considered watch this space. we do have a web page but as such this has more info at the moment, being we are changing within the next 2 weeks or so

simjns
20-04-2004, 12:08
green do you know any websites that have info on reflective im curious on other events that these guys have run before, the other night you refer to is slam on the breaks

green
20-04-2004, 12:13
i know its run by reflex records but thats it sorry...:( went a couple of times, and had a laff, not really garage music as such more funky house n speed garage, big basslines and lots of vocals.

simjns
20-04-2004, 21:46
in your mind is a good night then, dont really follow speed garage

green
21-04-2004, 10:38
the music is a big sheffield thing. think niche or reflective and the local sheffield people absolutely love it. i think IDJ did a massive 3 page spread on reflective and reflex records recently. real good write up.

Problem with Reflective is it's full of cap + tracksuit wearing, annoying ******* gobby kids - well that and I'm not too keen on speed garage. Well it was when it was a .zero anyway - surprises me that aqua would take on such a night as last time I went there it was all 70's orientated etc. and the door security was ridiculous - shoes n socks off, checking through wallet etc. - took ages to get in because everyone got the same treatment. If they could get a good proper club night in then it might be ok but until then I'm staying well away.
