ITV are going to broadcast a pop idol style show but it will be to find a member of public fit for parliment. Vote for me will see the contestants taking part in various challenges to be judged by a panel with the eventual winner been selected by a phone vote as usual.

Whatever next? :(

Ridiculous. This will only encourage the Pop Idol mentality group to vote for the best looking or the most annoying. If the winner then does go on to get a place in parliament, the winner would probably find themselves way out of their depth. MPs need political experience, not just the ability to appeal to the lowest common denominator who watch such trash.

It sounds like Government Propaganda to me! It would be aimed at the younger market, and trying to get them interested in politics.

Can you really imagine it working though? Someone will have to make sure vetting the candidates is carried out sufficiently. There is enough scandal in the commons already.

Actually I have to say I think this would be a good idea - the average politician comes across as an estate agent with all the personality and ethics squeezed out! It would be nice to see someone with some charisma and originality in there! Though I do think for this to work the people involved should have to stand as independants and not as political party members....
