View Full Version : When you have a dream.
Location114 22-04-2012, 09:59 So my question today is when you have a dream do you read into it?
Basically dependant on the dream ive had i normally sit and have a think about it and see if i can break it down to understand what it means.
I know this isnt strictly normal practice but i cant help it.
AbdullaJones 22-04-2012, 10:02 My dreams arent all that nice so i wouldnt waste time trying to work them out.
Location114 22-04-2012, 10:20 If its not nice its not a dream its a nightmare.

AbdullaJones 22-04-2012, 10:22 Dream, nightmare, i still wouldnt want to try and figure it out.
Best left in the land of nod i think.
Location114 22-04-2012, 10:23 I can see why you think that.

I dream a lot, most of my dreams are rather *ahem* X rated though so I can't post details on a public forum :D

Not on a family friendly forum we don't ;)
AbdullaJones 22-04-2012, 10:55 Yep. Of course your right.
Sorry everyone :)
I had a dream this week about The Sheffield Forum, and last night about Buzz Lightyear....What did I read into it? .....at least I got a bit of shut eye for once!
Charlie J 22-04-2012, 17:10 I mainly have zombie nightmares so don't really bother to look into this too much, lol! However, when I mentioned this to someone they were really shocked and asked me if I had a 'zombie plan'
nikki-red 22-04-2012, 17:12 When you wake up and remember a 'dream' chances are what youre actually remembering is a few dreams all merged together
vwkittie 22-04-2012, 17:18 When I have vivid dreams that I remember they don't normally need much interpretation, normally pretty straightforward!! Sometimes I wake up and wish I was back in the dream!

I also have zombie dreams.
Sometimes I realise I am dreaming and I can control the dream which actually make nightmares fun, stuff like possessing the force or flying.
If you are not sure if you are dreaming, try turning on a light switch as those don't work when you dream.
Apparently if you read something, look away from it and re read it, it will never say the same thing. I have never tried that though.
...If you are not sure if you are dreaming, try turning on a light switch as those don't work when you dream. ...
That simply isn't true. Dream light switches do work, but they must be pressed (like turning on a dimmer switch) rather than clicked up or down. That specific dream action has been mapped to activity within the parietal cortex and is precipitated by a burst of dopamine release.
pattricia 22-04-2012, 23:15 I dream that Im chasing George Clooney but Ive NEVER caught him yet. !!

So your saying what I said is true for typical light switches but not dimmer light switches. Thats fair enough. The point is when a light switch doesn't work, I then realise I am dreaming and I can then control the dream. I apologise for not specifying the type of light switches involved.

are we speaking about lucid dreaming here ?
I know in monitored experiments one of the only things lucid dreamers could'nt do was turn off a light

No...
The point is that extending what occurs and applies in your own unique dream experience to include others', like this:
...If you are not sure if you are dreaming, try turning on a light switch as those don't work when you dream.
Apparently if you read something, look away from it and re read it, it will never say the same thing. I have never tried that though.
is daft, as dreams are manifestations of your own unique collection of daily experiences, preoccupations, thoughts and memories, and as such their content and rules are as unique to you as your fingerprints (if rather more malleable).
In my dreams, for example, light switches work, but after I've turned them on they change into tiny lobsters and scuttle away.
I believe that dreams are a practice of situations that your body is not used to dealing with and and hence acts them out in order to develop ways of dealing with them, or a way of acting out things that we desire in order to get the feeling of satisfaction of having done them. I think dreams can be an insight into the subconcious but doing anything about it would be pretty pointless.
I dream that Im chasing George Clooney but Ive NEVER caught him yet. !!
PMSL! You're obsessed!
Still, I suppose it's only the same as me and Chas Dingle
She's on my Facebook friends list but I wouldn't know what to say so I don't chat to her :(

Chas Dingle?
Thats a man with a breard isnt it?
Edit.
Ignore me. Im not much of a soapy. Its the black haird women isnt it.

You said yourself that typical light switches don't work, only dimmer switches. So I'll rephrase what I said.
If you are not sure if you are dreaming, try turning on a typical light switch as those don't work when you dream.
Is there anything in your dreams you can use to realise you are dreaming, like I have with the light switches?
I dream that Im chasing George Clooney but Ive NEVER caught him yet. !!
That cos he's too busy chasing the bloke in front!
Chas Dingle?

Yep, according to Facebook she's originally from Leeds but lives in London.
AbdullaJones 23-04-2012, 17:46 Yep, according to Facebook she's originally from Leeds but lives in London.
That makes sense.
You can tell shes from Leeds just by the way she speaks.
Ok to look at but common as hell to speak to.
Edit.,Actualy, the more i look at her the more i like her.
Strange but she is a hottie!!!
:hihi:
You said yourself that typical light switches don't work, only dimmer switches. ...
I was joking. There's no universal law - or region of the cortex, for that matter - specifically applicable to dream light switches :hihi: .
...So I'll rephrase what I said.

Who says they don't work in any dreams other than your own? They work in mine, shellfish aside.
...Is there anything in your dreams you can use to realise you are dreaming, like I have with the light switches?
I don't have lucid dreams, but I imagine that when a small team of purple hamsters engage in a display of synchronised swimming in your bath water, you're on pretty firm ground when you assess it as a dream. If you find you can control the scene, and interact with it - try scoring the hamsters' display, for example - you might be in a lucid dream.
I dream a lot, most of my dreams are rather *ahem* X rated though so I can't post details on a public forum :D
Haha!
Do you have to stand your mattress against the radiator....To dry it out.:gag:

You sounded like you cared a lot more about dreams than I do and had researched them, so I just took you at your word, I won't be making the same mistake with you again. You trolled me fair and square.

I bet you will see these lobsters now they are on your mind. :hihi:

How did you know what I had dreamt about last night :o

It was a joke, not a trolling attempt :) . And you're right: the subject is fascinating.

Ha, that's quite likely. After a Mythbusters marathon over the weekend I had Adam Savage pop up and admonish me for not submitting my biochemistry coursework. Could be worse; it could have been Jamie's moustache, detached and angry, on a killing rampage with a roll of poisoned duct tape.
HappyHoosier 23-04-2012, 18:57 My dreams are mostly my mind sorting and filing whatever it's encountered during the day.
But some dreams are obviously symbolic and I try to make sense of them. One type I have regularly is what I call a "packing dream." The exact circumstances vary, but I'm always preparing for/escaping from some sort of disaster (tornado, flood, sinking boat, burning house) and trying to pack what I need in a very small box, suitcase or backpack. It's very stressful, trying to decide if I should grab the corkscrew or the fly-swatter before I board the lifeboat. :help:
AbdullaJones 23-04-2012, 19:02 Haha!
