I used to go down to ball just about every night at one period....now just go thursday, friday, saturday, before town and sunday....somtimes the odd monday if i've just been paid. I enjoy going down and the beers nice and cheap :)

There's nothing that goes off in the ball that you dont see in alot of other pubs/clubs in the centre, I wouldnt advise not going if your not from the area because I know theres people that go in and arent from h'boro or the surronding area and never get in to any trouble.

If you go looking for trouble you'll find trouble......same as any where else realy...

I love the ball, I have been a regular since I was 14 :hihi: (I am now 21)

I don't go in as oftern now thou, mostly Friday and Saturdays, can't be doing with all the young 'uns on Thursdays (even thou I used to be one)

I like it cos I know all the staff and other regulars but I wouldn't say don't go in if ur a student or not local, I have got a mate who goes down who is from Rotherham and he never has any trouble wen he goes.

I used to go every Thursday about 2 years ago. But now don't bother. Prefer town, so no point going. Was in there other Friday though dressed as a gangster for me mates birthday.

It's not a very nice place; like most of the places in Hillsborough IMHO.
I used to pop in for a few drinks before a match on Saturdays but I just avoid the place now...

Traditionally a lynching takes place at the gibbot round the back of the pub. :hihi:

from what i can gather locals or students never go to hillsbro anyways, why would they want to?

My 19 year old son tries to go every Thursday, apparently the place to go.
However he has been beat up a couple of times there, once provoked by the bouncers, over a girl I think.
But nothing seems to stop him going.
I've been in myself & it has a great atmosphere but don't look at anyone the wrong way or spill your drink.

It used to be the place to go on Thursday's when I was nineteen, but it's always attracted a lot of idiots!! Everyone inside looks like they belong in "Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps".

Me. I like cheese too, but not as cheesy (and nasty) as the Ball. And it doesn't come from not going in there, been there enough in my time, but it's only "up" point for me is that it's local and I can stagger home easy enough. And the fact that everyone knows each other (including me) is not a benefit.

Now you've said that women from all around the world will be flocking to Hillsborough to try to find themselves an English gentleman. The Paris Tourist Board will be terrified. How on earth can the Eiffel Tower compete with the bus stops opposite Hillsborough Interchange as a potential romantic destination?

From the age of 16 to 28 I used to go in the ball at hillsborough, most monday thursday and weekend nights used to have a right laugh and as somebody said earlier safer if you knew most people in there. I`m now 39 and not been in for a few years, last time I went in with my husband told to take a ring side seat by a regular as there was sure to be a fight or 2 and were they right within 2 minutes 2 had broke out.

A pint and a fight. Great British night.
Just hope nobody tries to ponce it up like they've done with my local, The Dev, up on Southey.
That used to be sound.

So if someone beat seven shades out of you next Friday or Saturday night for a laugh would you love that? Surely you would have to because they were only having a "Great British night"? That reasoning seems sound to me, although you might think using reasoning is poncy. Then again, I don't think you like to use it given that in your first post on this site you praised the Chavscum website and said that "Nails are most definitely hit on the head!" and your post about your love of The Ball is one of the chavviest things I've read.

The ball is the only pub I've ever been in where a bouncer has found someon dealing in the toilets, and simpy said "behave yourself"

Presumably he was in for a cut of the profits.

actually mate!! this ain't true!!!

obviously ur naive enough to believe this.

Believe it or not, not all doormen get caught up in dealing drugs.

there are also some well respected people who go in there. But people dont see this, they jus see what they WANT to see.

What is shocking is that it happens at all. Surley anyone witnessing such a thing should inform the police. It is bad bouncers like that that give all bouncers a bad name.

I'm sorry, because it goes on elsewhere it's alright?

This is a conversation about the Old Blue Ball, I have made my views clear.

If anyone starts a thread about another dive, I will gladly comment, if I have the knowledge to do so.

Here's a link to a post I made nearer the time of the incident.

Personally, I'm torn. It's a horrible pub, but I realise it has a place, because it's mere existence keeps the people you don't want to deal with in one place.

Sid, wake up and smell the coffee mate.

The police will already be aware, but it is easier to control a situation than it is to eradicate it. Every now and then they will bust somewhere/someone to keep the public onside.
If you eliminate all of your known dealers/informants, what are you left to work with?

Ur makin it out to sound like this doesn't happen. It happens and its something that the police are tryin to control. If u read the papers they are strugglin in doing so.
I can see where your coming from but lookin at it in another way, at least the doormen can control who is dealin etc. It worked/works in certain clubs and more than likely all clubs. It just that they must be a tad more discreet about it than they were in the ball.!

i respect what doormen have to put up with! idiots who go around bottling people, fightin over a spilt drink! fights all of them time with little idiots who go around thinkin they can fight the world. Not surprised enough of them act like they do!!! so a little bit of drug dealin or shud i say drug management is probably light relief!!!

It is not the responsability of Doorstaff to monitor drug sales in the way you indicate.
I don't disagree it happens, but it is wrong. End of.

I expect people start fights in lots of other places and they are scum too. What annoys me most is people trying to glorify violence and portray as a part of British or working class culture that should be celebrated. Whether the people starting fights are chavs in The Ball or ex-public school lads in a bar in London they are still scum. People who watch fights and cheer as they do so and later tell the police that they saw nothing if asked are almost as bad.

There are places in the world where you can go out on a night or to a football match and there's no trouble. There's a word for those places.

Drug management, by the Police, is a good thing.

If drugs are driven further underground, it becomes a lot harder to police their use and sale.

The Blue Ball is a flea pit of a drinking den, dirty like the "homes" of the slime that frequent it. The "fighters" who row over the childhood game known as foot - ball. The Chavs who row over "tha lass & ma lass" and who was looking at them when. And the door staff who get oral relief from the Chavs lass when the Chav has passed out in the corner in a pool of his own vomit.
