Anybody booking private hire vehicles, the operators of those vehicles need a licence, they should be able to provide you with a Private Hire operators licence number from the local authority from within which they operate, or in the case of minibus 9 pass plus a VOSA licence number. If they cant provide such I would be very wary of booking anything.

NOTE to mods on this can we introduce something that where people advertise or suggest these types of services they should provide such information or be blocked - this would protect the public from possibly illegal opertaors, and protect the business of the genuine ones.

bout time SCC started collecting unpaid rent and council tax instead of harassing hard working taxi drivers....

i can assure everyone includig scc licensing that spc taxis are fully licenced,registered and insured. Its a legitimate business with a nice guy in shaun. I once booked to go away without a return flight and ended up flying back to stanstead and he still came and picked me up,was there waiting.

He sounds like a good bloke but SCC want you banned if you can't you provide the operators licence number.

if thats the case then they are free to ring the number i provided and ask for it,to be honest i find the phone number more usefull personally! Lol

Don't be an idiot. Some of the so called licensed taxis in sheffield drive with bald tires, squicking breakes, broken lights.

Private people may be more responsible than the so called licensed ones you mention!

with the train fare being so low, except in unusual circumstances I fail to see the point in getting a taxi to the airport from Sheffield.

We are flying pre 8 am sunday morning from manchester. No trains, nothing. Either drive or stay in hotel overnight.
Seen another licensed taxi by supermarket. 0.2 mm left on the tyres.
Insulting people are lied to that licensed is safe, keep on dreaming.

thanks for the quick replies.
Yes i am aware that train tickets are about £6-8pp (railcard advance etc) but my flight leaves at 0745 and the earliest train on a sat gets into MIA at 0628 which is a bit touch and go if the train gets slightly delayed..

I think a taxi at about 50-60 for 4 sounds reasonable so was out looking for a quote for an 8 seater.

any other ideas?
