Apparently ticket wardens in Rotherham are now going to work nights and will be getting a Police escort to stop them getting beaten up. The Council say that it's essential to keep cars off double yellows and the like.

Am I missing the point here? Didn't the Police once do that? Why do they need to escort somebody else to do their old job?

I hope this is nothing to do with the jocular post I put on the "Officious and "Self Important" Thread 5 minutes ago. :) I was only joking!

The Police are far too busy dealing with crime (guffaw!) to issue parking tickets, that was left to local councils a long time ago.... however if they can afford to employ the police to shadow their employees then its gotta pay in the first place.... and that will be the arrangement as they have radios capable of contacting an officer in a situation but who in their right mind is gonna ticket cars in the middle of the night at a weekend....say? without the said support?

More overtime to the police and more revenue to the council..... sweet!

What next?

They should send round the army as well, in case anyone attacks the police.

It'll be the 'specials' who do it for free no doubt.
