Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, I filled my car last week at a co op petrol stationary and the car was running really rough for a couple of days until I put fuel in at a bp petrol station and then it run fine, I then put fuel in at the same co op petrol station again yesterday and the car is running rough again, has anyone else had this problem (my car is a diesel)

I've never noticed that much of a difference with mine, but I don't doubt your experience. One thing that did happen to me recently on the motorway was an apparent misfire/bad sound with a lurch, very brief loss of power and some smoke from the exhaust. Within a blink or two everything was fine, and I have done 350 miles since with excellent economy and power. It could have been a bit of coke dislodging from the cylinder head, but I didn't think that sort of thing happened to modern diesels. Perhaps it was fancy fuel with engine cleaning additives that actually work! :D Kind of suggests that the fuel I normally put in is not so good, or perhaps it's loads of short journeys.

That was probably the EGR valve cleaning itself.

I know a few years ago I had this problem with unleaded from Tesco ... Actually a garage we took our car to was advising customers not to fill their cars up at too often at Tesco. I have a diesel now and use Tesco regularly with no problems.

The odd time I have used a Coop station I have had no problems (unleaded or diesel).

I wonder if the main tank was low and you pumped in all the crap from the bottom ?

My partners dad had same thing at a merco and filled his engine/tank with crap which caused it to go into safe mode.

Myth!

Fuel is taken from the bottom of the fuel tank all the time anyway..
Plus, there's that thing called the fuel filter which catches any crap.

That was probably the EGR valve cleaning itself.Never thought of that. Saves me the trouble of having to do it myself, I guess! :D

Too many people drive diesels these days but don't know a thing about maintenance and how to use them. A couple of years of low speed town driving, failure to change oil and fuel filters regularly (6000 miles, not 12,000) and not bothering with an additive and in no time you've got gummed EGR valves and injectors and sooted up DPF.

Diesel engines are a lot more robust and reliable than any petrol engine but you must look after them, the fuel filter must be changed regularly and the oil and filters must be changed as well, they are a very dirty engine and will muck up fast if not maintained properly, try running some injector cleaner through it different types of fuel don't usually bother them as they run on compression rather than ignition that a petrol engine runs on, they will run on most any fuels, the more modern diesel engines are a bit refined and have a lot of sensors to protect the diesel pump from damage,EGR vales are not self cleaning and do need to be cleaned manually I always remove and blank off EGR valves I'm not a fan of EGR valves I think they are more trouble than they are worth.
