This again is terrible news, and once again my thoughts are with the lads parents, relatives and friends!

However I just want to add as allways, that I don't feel it is appropriate to speculate about whats happened with the accident until any sort of investigation has taken place, So I feel all the talk of beer cans etc at the moment I see as irrelavent!

Tragic!

Hi Dibsy

Your house is right on an accident blackspot as well you will know and speed cameras would be well justified on there.
Its a job pulling out onto the main road because of the speed of on coming traffic.

Hi Cycleracer, you know just how bad it is here, there was a petition going round a few months ago wanting some kind of pedestrian crossing especially for rush hour, haven't heard anything since but something seriously needs to be done to eradicate the amount of accidents that are happening here.

Totally agree, its always been a blackspot. I hate pulling out of the junction there, especially when you get some idiot that doesn't use his indicators :nono:

South Yorkshire Police - Appeal for Information - Traffic
Fatal Road Traffic Collision at 0724 hrs on Friday 17 March 2006 on Southey Green Road, Sheffield.
Police are appealing for witnesses to a horrific road traffic collision in which a man died this morning.

The collision involving two vehicles occurred at around 07.24 hrs on Friday 17 March 2006 on Southey Green Road.

It is reported that a Vauxhall Astra car travelling along Southey Green Road in the general direction of Halifax Road was involved in a head on collision with a Landrover Discovery travelling in the oposite direction. It is believed that the driver of the Astra lost control of his vehicle and collided with the landrover.

The driver of the Astra and his front seat passenger along with the driver of the Discovery were all taken to the Northern General Hospital. At this time their condition is unknown. It is believed that a 3rd man, possibly the rear seat passenger in the Astra was thrown from the vehicle upon impact. The force of the impact threw the passenger from the vehicle across a grass verge, over a parked car and in to the garden of a property on Southey Green Road. This man died at the scene from his injuries.

Police have not yet named the man who died, but it is reported that he is in his early twenties.

The road was closed following the incident and it is expected to remain closed until around 1100 hrs today. Officers from the Road Policing Group and the Collision Investigation Branch are currently conducting their enquiries in to the cause of the collision.

Police are anxious to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident. In particular they are keen to speak with any passengers who were waiting at the bus stops in the area or who boarded a bus shortly after the collision occurred.

Witnesses are asked to please contact South Yorkshire Police Accident Witness Line on Sheffield 0114 2202970.

Get on to the local councillor & the road safety dept at the town hall, if you need a crossing (it's been needed there abouts for years) now is the time to ask. It's common knowledge, that the council only take things seriously after a fatality!!:loopy:

A woman was beheaded on the same bend a few years ago and a man also died in the same accident, still nothing has been done, they're oblivious as to what goes on.

With road safety & the council it's a "he who shouts loudest" mentality I'm affraid, if the local residents get the media & councillors on side, especialy so close to local elections!!! something will be done, but if the residents keep quite, you'll just get passed by I'm affraid.

My friend who lives right where the accident was saw it happen and the lads tore round that bend at such a speed going over onto the other side of the road and hitting the other car.

It's going to be the driver that has to deal with what's happened with the loss of a life.

I got up at 7.30 this morning, and the first thing the wife said to me was, "Did you hear that idiot in the car who drove down our road (narrow and should be 20 tops) about five minutes ago? He must have been doing about 50. God knows how he managed to negotiate the parked cars at that speed." Five minutes later, and sirens coming from all over. "Bet it's that prat who went past our house earlier!"

Wonder if it was him.

My thoughts to the family of the passenger who died.

Well, where do you start with so much gossip around?
First off, the chances the car had been stolen are very very high,
If so then (que lots of animosity towards me) they deserve to die, i have NO sympathy, when they do something like that no-one seems to understand what it does to the owner of said vehicles life, i:e higher premiums, no transport to work, no means of getting the little ones to where they need to go so that mum and dad can earn money to treat them well and generally have a good life.
The scum that stole the car have no respect for others property.
Probably driving under some kind of influence.
They were driving so quickly for a reason!?
They endanger innocent people trying to go about their day.

There is allways someone who says something along the lines of - i feel for their family. . . .why?
They deserve EVERYTHING they get, i hope the guy felt incredible pain for a long time before he died, a pillock just like these very nearly killed my partner and my daughter last friday night.

What goes around comes around. . . good riddance.

If i'm wrong, i'll eat my own poo.

And in view of the fact that the car may not have been stolen, and the dead lad was a passenger and in no way controlling the car, it would seem a bit harsh to blame him for his own death. He may just have been hanging on for his life and asking the idiot behind the wheel to ease off a bit.
If i'm wrong, i'll eat my own poo.
Would you like branston pickle with that?

Have a look at the front page of the star. . . . do you really think that astra was doing 30?
if it wasn't stolen then the driver needs to do time, children are around at that time of day. . .
Theres a time and a place for driving quickly.

saxon51
17-03-2006, 20:43
But the driver isn't the one who's dead. It's a passenger, who wasn't doing the speeding etc. A passenger in a legal car isn't doing anything wrong.

Whether he had his seatbelt fastened or not is another matter.

I doubt very much he was asking to slow down, wake up people and stop defending these effing idiots.

like i said, if i'm wrong. . . . .

saxon51
17-03-2006, 20:53
Not defending the idiot. He's alive in hospital along with another passenger he nearly killed.

If it was stolen, and the dead lad knew this, then I might have a different opinion. Till it's proven, then my opinion of who the idiot is in this tragedy remains the same. The one behind the wheel. The only one who could have caused it.

By the way Bazzo, I am just to the right of Genghis Khan when it comes to law and order. Read some of my other posts to see this.

In this case though, there is no evidence for me to have a downer on all the car's occupants.

After all, if I take a drive into DErbyshire and decide to overtake on a blind bend killing my son in the back seat, does he deserve to die just because he was in the car with an idiot driving?

I agree Dibsy...nothing changes

The accident you quote above happened 10 years ago, it was horrific for every one involved, what makes the situation harder to deal with, is the remarks and assumptions made by others in the area, who probably wern't even there !

Already the same thoughtless assumptions are coming through on this thread, unless you know for certain ...that is 100% certain, then please SHUT UP. Let the police do their job and sort out what really happened.

Let the people involved come to terms with their emotions, believe me they are feeling bad enough already.

Oh yeh..while I'm here, I would like thank South Yorkshire Police for their handling of the sad accident this morning. and thanks for their support during the time of the tragedy 10 years ago.

Shall we wait until all the facts are out before we make assumptions?

As for dazzo, get over yourself. You are not the only one to have a car stolen. I've had mine stolen and broken into but unlike you I don't need to spout my mouth off before all the facts are available. If the car proves to be legal I hope you do eat your own.

If not then try and spare a thought for their family. They still have lost their only son. I'm sure if something happened to you which was your fault then we would offer I condolences to your family. No one would say that it served them right based on the impression that you're a bit of a n@b would they?
