I go through Wortley a lot and noticed a man sitting on the wall at the side of the phonebox just round te double bend.
He looked like a homeless guy but was always there when I passed.
The last time I went through I noticed a wooden seat had been put there and a memorium to someone on it.
I have not seen the guy since and wondered if it was a memorial to him.

The man you mean was not homeless he was local, he used to sit on the previous bench and he lived in the cottage just set back from the road his name was Mark,he was a friend to all that knew him.
Mark died from a heart complaint,he was only in his early 40's. On the day of his funeral there was not enough room in church for all who attended and also not a dry eye,he was so loved.
You are right Cycleracer it is a new bench now which is a memorial to Mark.
I work in Wortley and people from all over Yorkshire, Lancashire and further afield have stopped in the square to ask about him and also to put flowers and messages on his bench.
He was on e of the local characters and is sadly missed.

Thanks for that, sorry this is a belated reply as I did a search of this thread.
