Sheffield Forum got back to winning ways in their final home game of the 2011/12 campaign. Forum made 2 player changes and 3 positional changes following last weeks defeat. Joe Appleby and Philip Gill came in as Matthew Corker and Andy Coates were unavailable.

Forum started the game with plenty of energy but found the ball just wouldnt bounce right for the players in the area. The net was eventually found after just 9 minutes though, Daniel Sheedy swung in a corner which was met by Liam Wales by the near post. His little touch took it in by the back post giving Forum a deserved lead.

Totley were not down but failed to create any real chances, Forum defending much better with Ashley Matthews very commanding after moving back into his favoured centre back position whilst Shaun Baugh made it hard work for Totley forward Daniel Hackett.

At the other end, the shots were fired in by Gill and Wales but unfortunately too close to the keeper whilst another header went over the bar. Forum played with variety using their passing game to good effect and the odd long ball when Totley were brought forward trying the ball back.

Half Time: Sheffield Forum 1-0 FDL Totley

Forum looked to put the game to rest in the 2nd half but it was Totley that came out the blocks fastest, causing problems down the wings but still not threatening Smith in the Forum goal. A long range shot was fired straight at the keeper whilst at other times Forum caused problems for themselves by trying to play out of defence when a big clearance would have been more appropriate.

Forum had chances when Kyle Dowling shot from the edge of the area and Tom Gray also saw his effort miss the target. Totley were then allowed back into the game through a penalty. Appleby was adjudged to have brought down the winger just inside the area and the penalty was converted for 1-1.

Totley found some confidence from this but Forum continued to defend well and soon took more control on the game. Wales and Sheedy combined well and further chances were missed.

Forum took the lead through Sheedy as he capitalised on a weak header from the defender back to his keeper. Sheedy got there first and couple slotted over the keeper to bag his 13th of the season.

Sheedy added his 2nd and Forums 3rd not long after. Kyle Dowling was played down the right, behind the defenders. His cross was slightly over hit and picked up by Sheedy who cleverly went past 2 defenders before finishing brilliantly from a tight angle into the top corner by the far post.

Forum were now comfortable and looked like scoring on every attack. The 4th goal came as Matthews won the ball in defence, found Daniel Sheedy in the middle of the pitch who played a great ball to Wales. His fine run was finished with quality to score his 2nd of the game and 3rd in 2 games.

Forum could have added more but were generally off target whilst Smith had to make only 1 real save, a shot that was fired through a number of players around the area but this was parried well and cleared away.

Sheffield Forum now have one more game remaining against Smithywood but a date is yet to be set for this game by the league. Forum currently sit 4th, joint on goal difference with Smithywood (league tables have not been adjusted to show game will be replayed). Final positions will be known by 29th April.

Team: Smith, Appleby, Baugh, Matthews, Jenkins, Gill (Lynch), Middlebrook, Gray, Wales, Sheedy, Dowling (Proctor).

Thanks Pink, brilliant report as ever, and well done you lads to bounce straight back after last week.
From Pinks reports i gather that the lads are gelling as a unit and it will be interesting next season if the nucleus of the team can be kept together.
Well done lads,good on yer.

Yeah they are gelling well but how they perform changes each week lol. Hoping to keep majority of the side for next season, as you say, the spine is important and being able to keep them injury free would be an advantage.

Few more friendly games over the next month or so, keep them playing and build for next season. 1 more league game to play which is yet to be arranged up on Bradway.
