RobsNo1Fan 16-03-2006, 16:36 We used to go there on a tuesday night and it was full of people from college. They used to spin the wheel to select drinks offers. spook 16-03-2006, 17:23 .......... dalesc 16-03-2006, 18:21 Ah! Birlins! those were the days. you had to be 15 or 50 to fit in. spin the wheel was good. that was in the days when you were un-able to go out in trainers. Camrat78 16-03-2006, 22:21 I remember collecting bus tickets for Berlins. With each ticket you got two bottles of god awful beer for £1. Brilliant, get lastered on a tenner! Those were the days!!!! slh73 16-03-2006, 22:32 berlins was a hole. full of underage drinkers, chavs, and middle aged tosspots who couldnt hold their ale. And the dress code was crap. Cath 17-03-2006, 15:33 Issy's was the first club I went to when I came to Sheff as a student. Remember Tuesday night's well. Don't know if it was an official student night but the place was cramed with stooddies. I shared a birthday with Berlins and they always had a party with giveaways and stuff so I only really went there on that day. Till Man 17-03-2006, 15:53 Isabellas was Penny's before. We used it for 6th form parties. anonamous 19-03-2006, 15:44 Berlins brings back memories, it sounds sad but it used to be a good night in there. U could wear wat u want n pretty much do wat u want and not get hassle of the bouncers. bjshooter 19-03-2006, 15:56 Uropa and Berlins were the fist places I ever went to, at about 13, hardly ever got asked for ID. It had such famous people in there as beppe and Ricky off eastenders, ricky sung if I am not mistaken. It was always only a pound a pint so at that age I only needed a fiver to get well and truely slaughtered. They were complete dives the toilets stunk and were always flooded. The very first time I ever went out I went to Uropa on a monday I think and it was a gay night and I didn't realise, I just thought the ladies been full of men was normal, that was one of the best nights ever. tulipa 22-08-2009, 22:16 Berlins?! Me an my friends practically live in there in the early 90s - fun times!! They always played 'Late December 63' towards last orders! MR BENN 23-08-2009, 03:53 i remember Berlins on Bank Holidays in the daytime -Massive jugs of lager for next to nothing , we had some great all day sessions in there . I also used to go to Uropa on Tuesday nights -student night -very cheap ale Good old days soupdragon73 23-08-2009, 11:47 I never used to go out much to town but when I was back in Sheffield last year,it all seemed abit dead around that area now! All those bars have gone and never been replaced, town didn't seem as lively as it was back in the 80's/90's.There were loads at one time including the beloved Roxy! Is this just my impression or am I wrong, does everyone just go to different areas now? tulipa 23-08-2009, 18:07 I never used to go out much to town but when I was back in Sheffield last year,it all seemed abit dead around that area now! It seems that alot of people go on West street and around that part of town these days. discovery 23-08-2009, 18:17 Memories of Isabellas - Paul Raffique working on the door donning his white John Travolta suit! bensonhedges 23-08-2009, 18:35 I never used to go out much to town but when I was back in Sheffield last year,it all seemed abit dead around that area now! Funky_Gibbon 24-08-2009, 09:37 I remember one particular night where a group of us who were at college started out in Berlins, loaded down with those bus tickets which bought you two small bottles of brown water for £1. After several of those and some lemonade alcopops we were all quite "merry" which is why we all had our arms around each other singing Supergrass songs and jumping up and down to Smells Like Teen Spirit. From there we went next door to Uropa (the only time I went there) and I remember throwing up over my mates shoes whilst he was chatting someone up, then spending the next 30 minutes in the bogs being sick again. Stumbled out of the club feeling like death and grabbed the late bus home... andyrad29 24-08-2009, 13:21 aaah Berlins if you stood still for too long near the bar you used to get stuck to the floor!! Ousetunes 24-08-2009, 13:48 Isabella's was the nearest place to a nightclub that I could actually state as being likeable. I went fairly often between 1986 and 1987 (which up til June 1987 constituted under age drinking which probably explains why I liked going there) and always had a good time. It was always packed and my memories of it are the downstairs entrance and then upstairs, the cloakroom hatch and then the dance floor which was encircled with white tubular (rope) lighting. There was also a Cocktail Bar IIRC in the far corner. I've some great memories of being in there and still have an invite to a group 18th birthday party from 1987. We'd nearly always go to Gossip's first which was next door. This place only served beer in half-pint glasses for some reason. As for Berlin's, it was a place I went to a couple of times on a Sunday evening in 1989. I went there with a rather lovely 17 year old on October 15th 1989....and that same person is now my wife! Other than that, the place was a hole. andyrad29 24-08-2009, 13:57 I remember once it was buy one get two free on bottles but i didnt know this, So thinking to save queing up again for our next drink i get me and my mates 2 drinks each=6 as there was three of us but for each bottle i got another two! ended up having a bar full of drinks and had to shout my mates over to help carry them all! Tavit 25-08-2009, 07:43 Lamot pils! Vile but with the bus tickets you couldn't go wrong, Sunday night and some old bird used to stand on the bar and show her flip flops to everyone. Pulled some women in there tho alex3659 25-08-2009, 08:17 Isabellas was Penny's before. We used it for 6th form parties. It was called scamps before penny's and penny farthing before that.
