personally, being a student, I love the sheffield uni beer garden. It's one of the best in sheffield that I've found. Spent many summer afternoons there. The Lescar also has a really cool beer garden that i like spending time in.

The Lions Lair has just opened up a beer garden. its on burgess street next door to coles. www.lionslair.co.uk. Otherwise the forums got one www.forumsheffield.co.uk or its Eccy road.

In town the best is the Rutland on Brown street...It even won an award for best beer garden in britain or something once...so the rumour goes.....

The riverside down near kelham island is probably the best i've been in.Pretty small but you can just chill there during those summer evening watching the river go by whilst getting loaded. I wish it was summer now. :(

i know!! cheers for the response, i never seem to get any from my posts :( anyways, ill be trying them all and it just popped into my head cos it was so nice today, so sunny n stuff. plus sheffield is amazing in summer, just has this buzz about it and i really wanna make the most of it this summer.
us lot from the forum should do the rounds of all the beer gardens every sunday or summat :) good excuse for a drink and also a nice change from the classic rock bar-nice and summery.

try the lescar on sharrow vale rd... near hunters bar school, next to rileys, they have a cute beer garden... in the summer you can smell dope from there!

I'm glad someone's mentioned the Riverside! I love that beer garden.
Its well hidden and I bet not many would think to go in that pub, but it really is nice and the tables by the river are ace in the summer! I'd deffo recommend that place for summer outdoor sessions...

The Stag near the roundabout on Psalter lane and sharrow vale road.Big beer garden and they convert half the car park with tables etc in the middle of the summer.

Riverside does some cracking food too.

Also worth a mention is Bluwater down at the Quays. Went there for lunch on Monday, the food was superb, posh restaurant standard but quite reasonably priced. It'll be proper nice sitting by the canal when the summer kicks in.

I work down on Victoria Quays and BluWater is starting it's summer barbeque menu in a few weeks too which is also really nice. You can book or order food in advance if you give them a call

yay!! roll on summer!! was in town today and it was really nice. sat in the beer garden outside the yorkshire grey next to the roebuck tavern for lunch but got too windy and cold :( im just abit too hopeful i think!

The Stag (as mentioned earlier) is family friendly - in the summer, the beer garden is good and there's an outdoor kids play area with swings and that - they do pub food as well

The Kelham Island Tavern has a beatiful beer garden, not the largest but full of lovely flowers etc. I think it is the nicest ine I have ever been in.

Some that you might have missed.

Three Merry Lads - Redmires. The views from the rear of the building are stunning. Seats and kiddies' play area, the Threes also does good food. Well worth the bus ride. Catch a 51 and it's a five minute walk.

Casa - To most people it's still Hanrahans. On a summer's afternoon, it's THE place to sit and watch the world go by, or at least, those who are still working! Get a bottle of chilled Chablis or grab a bite. I could spend nearly all summer here!

Fulwood Inn - Again, on a hot summer's day, it's great to sit on the sun terrace and chill with friends. Catch a 60 bus. Impressive building in its own right, The Fulwood Inn now welcomes families with (well behaved) children. It's a nice quiet place to spend an afternoon.

If you've got transport then venture into Derbyshire. Try:

Ladybower Inn - views over the dams;

Monsal Head Hotel and Stables - The Stables bar soon gets busy but it's worth it. Real ales, open fire and excellent food. In summer, sit outside with breathtaking views over Monsal Dale. Infact, next time your heading out there......,

If your going out to the Ladybower and its no beer garden just tables on the main road( Good for bikes though ) you may like the Anglers down the road in Bamford but again no beer garden as such but the Derwent does a little further down the road. Does the sportsman still have its yard at the back? Many agood night in there years back.

Well all this talk about beer gardens has made me thirsty..and seen as its my day off work and my m8s aint @ work 2day either i think im going to have to raid the piggy bank for a swift pint at the local pub :)

The Crosspool Tavern at Crosspool has a big beer garden out the back as well as tables at the front.
The Walkley Cottage has a great beer garden, it is still there but the view has been blocked by building of new apartments.
Crookes The Ball has seating out the front and some tables out the back.

As i said in previous post the Crosspool Tav has a big garden for kids to run round in.
If you want out of town maybe try the Strines pub as it has animals out the back and peacocks awandering round. The food is good and if the sun is shining it is a lovely place with some fantastic views around.
Forgot and the Sportsman at Lodge Moor has a big field out the back for the kids to play in and you can fly tour kite up there too, and it is supossed to do good food too.

I lovew beer gardens to such an exent, I built one myself outside my house! It is a small, paved back garden, walled on three sides and fenced on one. I have trellises running on the tops of the walls. There is a two-seater bench with a table in the middled for me and the missus and garden furniture for visitors.

The name of the bar is emblazoned on Spanish tiles on one wal and we have other plaques on other walls too as well as on the fence.

I have in the region of thirty-four pots and troughs with trees, shrubs and plants plus bedding plants and a few hanging baskets.

it's great sitting outside in Summer with as Stella or two.

Yes, the Lescar beer garden does have a reputation for i'ts fragrance!

Crosspool tav doesn't have good beer or food tho' Not been in a while, so this is just personal opinion.

My vote would go to the Three merry lads.

Sportsmans is good as well - if you do have kids then watch out for them if there are kites up!

Broomhill: Fox and Duck has an ok beer garden. They also have those gas lamp thingies to keep you warm.

Ranmoor: Fulwood Inn has a very nice beer garden. Set back from the road. You get to watch all the flashy cars turn up

Walkley: Walkley Tavern has a really nice beer garden and its also a sun trap

Crookes: Nothing too great. You can also lay on the grass outside of the Ball though so its where most people end up in summer.


In town. Wetherspoon's terrace is a real suntrap. Very small though. I quite like the Red Deer's beer garden. Very small but very quiet and nice.

I went to Dulo the other week when the sun had his hat on and that was great, they had a dj outside in the glorioius beer garden playing some heavenly tunes to chill to in the sun.
Dulo is at the back of London road right at the bottom behind the firework place (incase you dont know!) take care ju xx

North Sheffields best beer garden has to be at the Crown & Cushion in Chapeltown ;)

Many a Saturday night I've spent sat out there watching the world (and plenty of buses) go by! :P

Best beer garden in Crookes (and one of the most underrated in Sheffield) is the Cobden View.

The York in Broomhill has just opened a new beer garden, my mate who works there said they should have a load of new tables in the next week, and they've got an outside pool table too, although not really suitable for families.

Not noticed if anyone's mentoned it, but The Aunt Sally has a class beer garden although last time i went the food was rubbish!
