View Full Version : How clean is your driving licence?
Do you currently have any points or have you ever had any? Or have you ever been banned from driving?
I've held my licence since 1993 and I currently have 3 points for speeding. I've been penalised on one other occasion for speeding also (3 points) but those became spent a couple of months before I got these current points.
I got 3 points and a fine for 'parking'! :o
... I don't have the words.....
Nomme
jackthedog 13-04-2004, 15:42 Think i've done the same as you Lickzz.
My old points (3-speeding) have only just 'worn-off' and I then got zapped the other morning right outside my house!
Was doin 35-6 ish (honestly) in a 30 so I suppose it depends how generous the bobby was feeling! I'll wait to see if the letter comes through the door!
So, it's either none or three - dunno yet!
Filthy! Whoever invented the paper driving licence should have been shot. They fell apart in about three minutes. Wish I had one of those nice plastic ones. Does anyone know how i get one?
on the points thing, i'm proud that after 9 years driving, I have none.
I was doing 38mph in a 30 zone when I got flashed by a fixed roadside camera.
Sam Miguel 13-04-2004, 15:50 I have a clean licence, party due to the fact that I am extremely boring and very rarely break speed limits.
jackthedog 13-04-2004, 15:55 My first three points were gained by doing 44 in a 30 zone.
I was about 10 yards away from the road turning to the national speed limit, so I put my foot down and got to 44mph when the cop jumped out from behind a bush in somebody's driveway! Agh.
Good thing is, i'd only been driving for a short while, and was still in my probationary period of 'six points and out'. So it really made me drive carefully! A great idea in my book.
My recent 'zap' was a mobile camera van placed on a local corner where there has been a few accidents recently, so I cant complain. At least they're doing it as a safety thing as apposed to just generating revenue. Speed traps in these sorts of places are a good thing really.

Snap I've still got a paper 1 and same amout of driving and no points - not that I don't speed - I just know where the cameras are. You can get the card ones by sending off to DVLA but you have to pay for them. But if you change your address they are free.

Bl**dy hell! I've just checked their site and they want £19 for a replacement licence. I think thats a bit steep as it's their fault for giving me such a shoddy one in the first place. Replacments for the old paper ones should be free I think. The only reason I'm bothered about it, is that i'd like something thats better ID than the paper licence. Which is why I'm all for National ID cards, but thats another subject really. Hmm can see an idea for a new thread here....
Moon Maiden 13-04-2004, 16:07 My driving licence is absolutely spotless! Being that I don't have one and they seem to miss me on my broomstick! :p

Can you not contact them and say that it's fallen apart through age or something? See if they'll give you a free one then.
I don't think so by the looks of it. a replacement for any reason seems to carry a set charge of £19.
That's a shame. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Susie, who can only drive people mad
I have 3 points for a SP50 (motorway speeding) was doing 85 near B-ham :(

Thats ok, thanks anyway!
27 years driving - no points, endorsements etc. Never even had a parking ticket. Now let me finish polishing my halo :D
I've been driving here since '96 and my licence is in pristine condition. Hardly been out of it's plastic wallet to be honest but I'm not boasting - haven't driven since summer last year as I find driving quite stressful - too many cars and some people still can't go fast enough, blah, blah, blah

Me too, your not alone with this. I really don't enjoy driving at all.
3 years driving and 0 points, not bad really.
Chris.

uncleheed 13-04-2004, 20:46 15 years and no points and no accidents, plus 2 years driving a bus and never hit a thing.(exept a wheelie bin)!

Speed traps are supposed to be on straight stretches of road otherwise they are invalid afaik......
jackthedog 14-04-2004, 12:27 I'm not gonna contest it. Was speeding, will pay the fine.
Just three points in twenty years - and that was for 48 in a 40 zone (that used to be a 50 zone!)
In my defence, a bus was trying to push me off the road because I was where he wanted to be - so I overtook him and got caught by a mobile speed camera. Caught between a rock and a hard place!

Yep me too the only thing i ever hit was a wheelie bin, and only with the wing mirror but it came off and it was on my 2nd test, so i didn't pass. It hadn't been there an hr b4 when i had parked in the same place. Go on you can all laugh loads :P :loopy:
I have been driving at least 10 yrs, no points or anything and paper license still in perfect condition.
I had a 21 day ban (SP50 - speeding on motorway) and a £60 fine. Was doing 105 on the M1.
Foxy27, why were you driving without insurance?

Obviously that's your choice - just thought you might want to know that it sounds like you were caught illegaly :)
Mo - think I'd better join you with the halos:D 15 years driving, no points and also not even a parking ticket! Also no accidents or even insurance claims, only ever scraped the side of the car on the edge of the gate. (In a rush in the morning - late for work).
Almost 3 years now and no points, unless I didnt manage to slow down for that camera in time earlier in the week!
I was always under the impression that if they have them speed cameras in the vans, they have to have speed camera signs on the roads where they park. I was back home this week (in Corby) and there was a van on a road with no speed camera signs.
Didn't think that was legal, can anyone set me straight on this? I wasnt speeding anyway, but if we have to play by the rules, so should they.
I dislike speed cameras as you spend more time checking your speedo than is really safe, for the sake of points and a fine. Speeding can cause accidents, but **** driving (within the limits) can be as bad if not worse.
13 months (I'm only young!), no points, been pulled once for doing 34 - 35 in a 30 zone (*Cough*and for having a bit of road rage with the lorry I overtook*Cough*) and didn't know the copper was behind me for about 3 miles before that.. He had it in for me!
1 parking ticket, for parking in the car park next to the one across from Flares at 9.14pm on a Thursday night.. He must have been watching me park as that's about 1 minute after I left the car!
If you change your address you can cash your paper license in for a spanking new credit card with photo size one.
All this FOC. A bit extreme I know however, send in the forms with your mates address on and then a month later change it back to your address.
Just a thought if you want to save the £19
6 points for doing 54 mph in a 30 mph zone
£245 fine
mobile camera unit
3 points for speeding which expired in 2000.
You don't need to be on a straight to be caught speeding.
Why people whinge about being caught speeding is beyond me. You know what the speed limits are, if you exceed them don't complain if you get caught - it's sourgrapes! I wasn't chuffed when I got done but at the end of the day it was my fault so hands up!

Totally. Dont speed, dont get ticketed. I hate how many cameras there are, and I think there are some really innapropriate speed limits in place, but if I get caught then fair enough. You choose to speed, you pay the price!
Yep i agree, the only people that complain about getting caught for speeding and the cost is the fine are the people breaking the speeding law in the first place.
If you do it expect to get caught :P why complain :loopy:
Mines dirty as hell mate, the driving license that is!!!
qazitory 16-04-2004, 15:25 I've only had mine since 2 weeks today! :) At he moment it's clean, hope to keep it that way!!
Mine's clean, but I only drove for about a year or so before I sold my car and came to uni.

Change your address to your parents or a mates, then when you get you new licence, change it back again. That way you get it free!

I'd just passed my test at the time and just wanted to drive..you know how it is when your young!!
p.s I am (and have been for a few years) totally legal now..
karandak 17-04-2004, 19:24 Ive been driving 3 years next month, got 3 points on my licence! tut tut, got caught by one of those mobile units overtaking a bus on a dual carriageway, was doing 49 in a 40 limit! Just saw the flash and the casualty reduction unit on the side, was cursing myself something chronic!
Very rarely speed now as it scared me a bit, as i was still in my probationary period at the time so didnt want to risk getting anymore points and having to start from scratch!
I know i was speeding anyway, so deserve the points/fine etc, but just watched that traffic/police programme on the tv the other day and they were saying how in south yorks the leway is 10% plus 4mph, so i got caught by 1mph! haha, how annoying!
What do people think to all those speeding courses they do in other places, like Northampton/Lincolnshire (i think thats two places where ive heard about them!) where they expect you to pay the fine, but instead of giving you points ask you to attend a seminar on the dangers etc...
I have mixed opinions about these....not really sure! Good idea in many ways, but may not be good in the long run....where 'serial speeders' (as best as i can think to describe what im thinking of) are concerned!
I'm from Northamptonshire and I think they do have some sort of seminar or course, but not for every offender. I think it depends on the circumstances. For example being caught doing 35 in a 30 might lead to the seminar whereas doing 50 in the same 30 zone probably wouldn't be viewed so lightly.
