Precious 15-03-2006, 18:03 Hello, I'm joining the half marathon this year (I must be mad) and wanted to know how long, on average, it usually takes. Also if anyone wants a training partner, just reply.I like to run round western park usually. Cheers :)

Have a look at last years results here.
There is all sorts of abilities taking part. All i would say is do the preperation and don't set off too quick. It's a marvelous atmosphere in the stadium and if you train properly you will love it.
The only fault i've got with it is having to run around the stadium before finishing.I turned into Don Valley thinking i'd finished only to be told there was another 800m to go.
Precious 16-03-2006, 15:37 Thanks. Out of interest, where do you train?
Thanks. Out of interest, where do you train?
I live in Stocksbridge and work in Attercliffe so i get a lift into work and run home on training days, about 12 miles.I'm fortunate to be running in the London marathon this year so i'm running about 40 miles a week at the mo.
Finding differant routes is the problem now,it can get boring running the same course. If you are just starting training you want to go on the runners world site. There is plenty of help and advise on there.

The site above is good for plotting a run.It shows the milage and gradiant.
Good luck with the training.

Thanks for the link to the Pedometer
I did it in 1hr 40 last year and although it was my first time i did loads of training.
I would not worry to much about time some seem to treat it almost as a long walk which to me is a bit pointless no prob with walking some of it but if you want to walk better to do a walk than a marathon :)
2 hours seems quite a popular time just go out at your own pace and enjoy the day
foofighter11 17-03-2006, 22:14 hopeing to do it in around 2.10 2.20 and as its for yorkshire cancre reserch just get round will be good to find out more go to http://www.ycr.org.uk/web/ycr/index.html and to make me a donation plz go to http://www.justgiving.com/stevenashmore thanks
Ousetunes 18-03-2006, 09:17 What matters is that, if it's your first half marathon, you complete the course. Don't get too worried about the time. Whichever way you look at it, you're running thirteen miles.
Run for a charity then you'll feel incredible at the fact you've completed the course - in whatever time.
Despite yet another injury - I'm running it for a third time this year and have stated on the application form I intend to get round in 1 hour 50 mins. I'm running for Starlight - a charity for seriously and terminally ill children (giving them a chance to have the holiday of a lifetime etc,). Makes my two hours of effort seem a stroll in the park.
In 1987 (aged 17) I ran it in 1 hour 37; in 1996 I managed 1 hour 50. I'm hoping for a similar time this year but what the heck; If I raise a couple of quid for them poor kids then, hey, fantastic!
the world record is 58 mins 55 secs. Pros do about an hours. Fast runners up to 1 and a half hours. Good runners up to two hours. But so what if it takes 4 hours! Its just for fun...
Larkfield 18-03-2006, 15:46 I can usually get through a whole marathon in about 2 hours. Depends on if I pick the nuts out first...
*waiting for the onslaught of groans*
There called Snickers now.Rather spoils the joke doesn't it.
My best time for the London marathon was 2h.50min.I then got bored and turned the tv over .
Larkfield 20-03-2006, 14:59 Not really.
Thanks for that link howeyz,
I was doing my routes with some thread and a ruler on a map :loopy:
Anyway this is brilliant!
Ontopic: Isn't there a 3 hour time limit?
I personally wouldn't run it if I knew I couldn't do it in 3 hours.
inosanto 21-03-2006, 13:10 depends when you cross the line
foofighter11 21-03-2006, 20:31 There is a bus that goes round the course in 3 hours and the roads open after the bus passes but you are only invited to get on so not realy a time limit
