I'd imagine a Huskie needs a very careful diet...may be wrong of course. beamer 14-03-2006, 09:43 PM Try changing her diet that could help.Have the vets not advised you to do anything??? watkins 14-03-2006, 09:45 PM changed her diet a few times now.will try the pet care forums.thanks Hecate 14-03-2006, 09:49 PM You could try changing her diet, but if there's blood in there too it would suggest something's amiss. I would second the suggestion of taking her to a different vet and getting a second opinion. It seems strange that they haven't suggested something more useful. beamer 14-03-2006, 09:50 PM Hope you get her sorted out,Good luck:thumbsup: The_Bear 14-03-2006, 09:52 PM Do you give it milk? This doesnt answer the problem with the blood but milk can cause a dog to have an upset stomach. I know lots of dog owners like to give their dog milk, but they cant digest it very well. Afterall, once a wild dog (or any other wild animal) stops taking milk from its mother, they never have milk again. Having said that, it could be an internal problem rather than diet. Try a different vet. spud 14-03-2006, 09:54 PM Stay clear of Spring****** Veterinary clinics Yellowrose 14-03-2006, 10:14 PM Have you given her stomach a rest then given her chicken and rice for a week or so? watkins 14-03-2006, 11:13 PM Do you give it milk? Serafina 14-03-2006, 11:58 PM Oh no! You must be really, really worried! I have a dog and a cat and I can't recommend the Park Veterinary Hospital strongly enough, it is on Abbeydale Road South, opposite the park. Our cat was run over and they kept him in for 2 months while his broken leg mended and he was absolutely spoilt! They kept us informed every step of the way - phoning us daily after the accident, showing us his X-rays and explaining the different treatments he was on. In a dog owner's question and answer book it says: 1. Your dog's diet may be too rich, in which case a gradual switch to canned food with a higher cereal than meat content could be advantageous 2. Provide the dog with a bland chicken and rice diet during its recovery from an episode of diarrhea 3. If the problem persists, and especially if there is any sign of blood associated with the diarhea, contact your veterinarian Best of luck xxx JoeP 15-03-2006, 12:12 AM Hi there, I'm afraid I'm a cat person, but can imagine you must be really conerned. We use Hallam and Martin Vets at Crookes - they seem pretty clued in. I'd definitely get a second opinion, because there shouldn't be regular blood. Occasional blood with hard stools might be due to tears / constipation. Could it be worms? Good Luck. Joe littleboo 15-03-2006, 12:17 AM I have a Westie puppy and he had the same problem, we took him to the Vet and they gave him an injection, It eased up for a few days but then came back. we took him back to the vet and they did some tests on him and discovered that he is gluten intolerant....problem solved ...apart from when the kids slip him a sandwich or a sly biscuit. watkins 15-03-2006, 01:26 PM Oh no! Have you tried her on a barf diet http://www.naturalpetcare.co.uk/nutrition/dogdiet.htm Globule 15-03-2006, 05:36 PM Don't want to scare you but I would be worried if it were my 3 1/2 month old dog. I recommend you go to another vet asap. There are numerous things that diarrhea can be a symptom of. It urgently needs checking out. Lindseyw 15-03-2006, 06:08 PM Stay clear of Spring****** Veterinary clinics How odd that you say that - I've only ever heard good things about them & only ever had good experieces with them. Have you had different ? spud 15-03-2006, 06:13 PM How odd that you say that - I've only ever heard good things about them & only ever had good experieces with them. Have you had different ? Yes and so has quite a few people who I have spoken too wise_stasy 03-10-2006, 01:31 PM Poor dog! It's so pity when our pets are ill. Plain Talker 03-10-2006, 03:49 PM my dog has tummy troubles when he is fed on anything but chicken and rice based dog foods. He has colitis. Beef , and lamb etc are too "rich" for him. We've had this problem since day one, thirteen years ago. he is now happily settled on a pedigree brand chicken and rice dried food. Do keep a close eye on your pup, and get vetinary advice about her diet. watch out for whether her tummy upsets happen in response to certain foods. like milk or red meats. (it can be up to 24/48 hours before the reaction happens) whilst you are waiting for the vet appointment, scramble her some egg, and try her with that, it should be gentle enough on her tummy. Hope the pup gets better soon. EDIT TO ADD:_-chapppie brand, dog food do a chicken and rice version:- as someone said to try her on high-cereal dog food, give that a go. My dog did well on it. ourjs 03-10-2006, 08:46 PM Hope your dog gets better soon we use crookes at hackenthorpe they are really caring and clued up . hockeybear 03-10-2006, 10:36 PM wouldn't bluesandtwos be the best to ask for Husky advice? Dave.. muckynees 03-10-2006, 10:40 PM which vets was it that you went to? ive been told that abbeymore vets on halifax road are good, a little expensive though but i suppose thats not an issue in cases like this is it? bluesandtwos 03-10-2006, 11:58 PM Ok, resident husky expert is here! :D first question: Is your pup fully vaccinated? next: Is this a new problem or has it been happening since you got her? next: Is she otherwise healthy/ (skin, coat etc) finally: What are you feeding and how often. reply to these and I'll see if i cant help you out on this one. Sibes are unfortunatly a breed that can have specialist dietary needs and diarrhoea can also indicate a more serious problem found in this breed. Strix 04-10-2006, 12:02 AM I hope this pup is okay :( ..... especially as we havent had an update on the situation since the first postings in MARCH!! bluesandtwos 04-10-2006, 12:05 AM MARCH!. Hehe! shows how much notice I take:confused: . had a horrible thought then it could have been one of my last litter, but none stayed local apart from the one we kept:hihi: Strix 04-10-2006, 12:10 AM I'm sure your pups' owners had strict instructions to contact YOU first for this sort of problem ;) bluesandtwos 04-10-2006, 08:52 AM with my pups, yes of course ;). thats what decent breeders do. always willing to help out a husky (or owner) in need :) kentlass 04-10-2006, 11:15 AM Have you tried the purina beta puppy food i know it is a bit more expensive but it was the food that puppies could have that wouldnt give them diahorrea some of the food are too rich for them. the tinned stuff we used was butchers or winalot puppy food a good vet is hallam veternary centre in sheffield in hillsbrough hope this helps bluesandtwos 04-10-2006, 03:55 PM I have never, nor will I ever fed my sibes tinned food, absolutely gauranted to go right through them. complete working and raw meat(with bones) is our diet of choice and we never get digestive problems. Problem is, with seven of them, we have to have a deep freeze just for their bulk order of assorted meat cuts. kittenta 04-10-2006, 07:24 PM I have never, nor will I ever fed my sibes tinned food, absolutely gauranted to go right through them. complete working and raw meat(with bones) is our diet of choice and we never get digestive problems. My brothers Huskie does and altough he had lots of problems with the runs when he was younger (when he lived with me) he doesn't seem to now (he doesn't live with me) and no I wasn't giving him anything different when he was here  |
