if i remember rightly hartley closed this warehose in the late 80s, it was taken over by a firm called coldflow and the warehose turned into an assembly shop for coolers.

I remember Fred Hartleys when i worked for Samuel wilsons West st in the mid 50's they operated from a house and yard in Broomhill, the two Hartley Brothers came round in a large Commer van selling garage stuff. niuts bolts etc.

skeggy i worked in the warehouse where all the stuff came from in your shop,mind you we were paid a pittance. i used to come out with about14.00 for a full weeks work.

I bought my sister an iron and ironing board from Fred Hartley's, for a wedding present, in 1974 (Herries Rd South)
She still uses them both!!

Worked for them in about1968 in Fitzwilliam St.
One brother called Russ, can`t remember the other ones name.:

fred hartleys was my 1st job when i left school.ive forgotten the name of the manageress,but she wore alot of makeup and was always done up like a dogs dinner.i wasnt there long before i got the sack.for something very trivial.but those days jobs were pretty easy to come by.i got the sack on the friday morning and by the afternoon,i,d got a job at hiram wilde.just up the rd from fred hartleys.

Yeah those are the ones. II remember buying bryan ferry with come on come on lets get together and ELO. The vinyl of the ELO single was purple, I think thats what made me buy it! For I had never saw a coloured one before. :hihi:

Thats her ok.......she was shop manageress,I worked in the warehouse.....Midgeley,Towns,Goddard,John Day,Mick Savage,Al Hadley,Phil Watson......I could go on....but I won`t,be seeing some of em Friday.
