Does anyone here like to go and see amateur plays in Sheffield. I think there are some excelent plays on performed by amateurs.

For example there is one on next week which is very good.

they also usually do a show around May time although Im not sure what this is. The ill health of Brian Platts obviously has an impact on the society

I love them, I used to go to Norton to watch performing arts performances all the time.

There is an excellent group in Frecheville that puts on two good plays every year. Next one is in May. I agree that some amateur groups are every bit as good (if not better) than some of the stuff you see on TV.
We are hoping to start up a group on the Forum of people with similar interests in Am Dram & Operatics.

I have watched a few good ones, when I was younger my dad used to take me to see various ones, I think that they were by the Manor group.

Denys Edwards Players are performing "humble boy" this week at the Library Theatre.

Flyer can be downloaded here (www.dasgrafik.com/misc/DEPHumbleBoy.pdf)

Support your local theatre groups! And not just because they hire me to do artwork....

The Company who put 3 shows a year on at the Drama Studio are pretty good.

I have found local theatre going to be a very risky buisness. Saw something at the Library Theatre that was truely terrible, (not the company mentioned above I hasten to add). I won't mention the name of the company because I don't want to discredit any work they may have done which is of better quality but this was like a 'carry on' with all of the jokes taken out meandering along at the pace of a very poorly lame duck. Something to do with fighting over beach huts? It made me want to cry.

On a more positive note I hear that Merlin Theatre in Nether Edge is pretty good but haven't seen anything yet. Any recommendations?

My boyfriend is Musical Director for Dinnington, Worksop and Star (Rotherham) Operatic societies - they all do musicals and they are usually good shows. Worksop are doing Hello Dolly in May, Dinnington are doing Company in April (also directed by my boyf!) and Star are doing The Full Monty in May (I think).

If anyone would like anymore info on any of these shows feel free to PM me.
