View Full Version : Why does everyone go mad in supermarkets at Easter?
i went shoppin in asda on saturday at 6! n what a waste of time it was really! everythin had practically gone! some shelves were empty! meat counters, bread, drink department etc!
the shop is only shut for 2days not 3weeks!!
why do people insist on goin mad at supermarkets? morrisons was the same as well the staff there said it was pandamonium!!
Fantomas 12-04-2004, 07:43 The same thing happens every bank holiday. Perhaps the question should be 'why don't supermarker managers use their common sense and order more stock in?'
For some reason we have turned into a nation of panic. The majority of Supermarket are only closed for 1 day but still people go crazy just like when there is a snow shower.
silverknight 12-04-2004, 10:03 I know that supermarkets do order in extra stock for bank holiday periods. Managers also have to take account of what is called 'waste' if you buy too much product with a short shelf date and it does not sell you make a loss. In todays world it all boils down to make the maximum profit for your shareholders which in most of the big supermarkets also includes the employee.
I do find it quite amusing that everyone buys like theres a famine coming.
Next question, why do all OAPs go shopping on saturday when they've had the whole week free to do so? Instead millions of them go when the rest of the working population go.

Lol I know! When I used to work at meadowhall I used to get so wound up with OAP and double buggy tribes... I have no patience whatsoever and its made worse by the fact that I had about 15 minutes in which to have a break and if I wanted to get from one side of meadowhall to the other, I had allow 5 minutes walking time either way just to get there!
Now I'm a nippy person on my feet, I can zoom here there and everywhere without bashing too many people, but Saturdays used to take the micky, especially if I ventured to Sainsbury's...
Its so good that I'm not working anymore!
With annual celebrations becoming more and more commercialised I suppose mega-shopping sprees are simply a result of this. The real essence of traditional celebrations are lost to the younger generations - I don't hear of many Easter bonnet parades in the locals these days which I think is a shame - not much community spirit about any more.

I volunteer at a Primary school on a Thursday morning and they were having one in the afternoon... Unfortunately I had to go to school in the afternoon so I missed it :(

Because they don't collect their pensions till the end of the week so they're skint till at least Thursday, and many of them wait for their families to take them shopping, which usually ends up being weekends due to their sons or daughters' commitments mid-week.
Sam Miguel 12-04-2004, 13:49 I had to go into town today (normally I sit in our East Wing and have a few tinnies on Bank holidays) but , as I say I had to drive into town.
The queue to get into the B&Q on Queens Road was unbelievable.
Why?
What for?
Why is it that they hit these places on Bank Holidays?
And even more strange is the fact that, almost 93% of the silly buggers will have homed-in on the bedding-plant section.
Just why do they want to buy bedding-plants a full month before they actually need them? Do they put them in salads or something?
I am so confused.
Hmmmmm bedding plants in salads.....the ideas just keep rolling in.

I blame reality TV and the likes of Alan Titchmarsh and Tara wotsherface :P
Off topic rant I know but just who the flip IS Tara Palmer Tompkinson?! What has she done to make her so famous?! Is she related to some Royal or summat?!
I used to work in Sainsburys and before every Bank Holiday we'd get the silly idiots coming in buying everything that was left. Most of them would also moan that it was disgusting that we were allowed to close for a day (yes, just one day!). Goodness knows how they'd have managed in the olden days before late night shopping, Sunday opening, when we had half-day closing and so on...
Now I work in the Bank, and we always get at least one person asking "Will you be open on Bank Holiday Monday?". :loopy:
Meh, some people are just plain stupid.
Doesn't common sense tell them that if it's a Bank Holday, logic would dictate that the Bank staff would be on Holiday, therefore the Banks will be shut?!
Honestly some people eh? :loopy:

fair play there then!
I also find it quite amusing that everyone in the world seem to go to the tip on a bank holiday. It's like a big family day out to dump the garden waste. Great! I'd like to point out that I only know this because if you drive past our local tip on a bank holiday you have to que for hours just to get passed it due to all the people turning right into it.
Rusted Root 13-04-2004, 12:16 Yup. I work in a supermarket too and every single holiday is the same. Always busy!! I mean come on the shops are closed for one or two days tops!! :)
mikosavi 13-04-2004, 20:41 what about B&Q carpark penistone rd?
40 mins trying to get out. sodding cars everywhere.
and i didn't really need anything!
Half the cars in B&Q car park aren't even B&Q customers, they use it as an overspill for Morrisons.
Or to abandon their cars on days when Wednesday are playing home games.
SatanInHeels 14-04-2004, 16:34 People in supermarkets near bank holidays... ARGH!!
Saturdays used to take the micky, especially if I ventured to Sainsbury's...
you were mad to even consider it hun, its always mental!!!!
