I'm looking to take up french lessons of some shape or form, but I don't know which is the best way to learn. I have checked out a few options like Learn Direct, Linguaphone UK, College courses, Private lessons plus various CD's and computer courses etc.

Money is a factor along with time, so has anyone done a Linguaphone course or had private lessons at all?
I will be starting at begginer level.

I'd do a college course if I were you...

Its not too dear, around a £100 I'd say, but if you get any benefits etc, you're bound to get a percentage, if not all fees paid... Try the Sheffield College... :D

The only two places I found were Castle and Loxley the fee was over £100 for a begginers year long course, but the times didn't suit my working hours, the last class was 7pm which when i'm on my late shift that's the time I finish and I don't have my own transport to get there. I think I have to pay the full fee because of what I earn.

Dude

Check out things with your trade union if you are a member - they may be able to get you on a course for free. I'm starting free Spanish lessons at Sheffield College as I am a member of the PCS  - course is just 10 weeks long but its better than nowt :P

They always offer 10% discount on all courses if you pay the fee up in full, regardless of earnings.

It really is the best option to study on a college course, but they won't be starting again until September.

Saw an advert in a telephone kiosk for someone offering French lessons. don't think Madame Fifi was particularly cheap though.
