I don't want to sound like a boring old fart but does anyone know much about the stock market in simple terms?

You pays your money,if your lucky the price of the stock goes up and your quids in,if your unlucky the price of the stock goes down and you end up with less than you started with.
Thats basically how it works,tho theres a LOT more to it than that,but i'll leave that for someone who knows what there on about!

I was just curious how do you do about buying on the stock market. Requirements etc????

You need a stockbroker, though a lot of banks have share trading services these days too. You will have to pay a fee. One thing to look out for are new companies coming to the market that have potential.

Another vote for fool.co.uk
It's a brilliant financial site that cuts out the cr*p. I've learnt hell of a lot from them in the last 5 years or so. Some of the info is quite an eye opener, especially the bit about tracker funds outperforming 75% of managed funds. If you don't know what I'm on about then read the 10 steps and start learning
