Hi

Im moving to sheffield in few months and I am considering renting a property near abbeydale road/ London road/Netheredge area. I just want to know peoples views on these areas with respect to closeness to the centre of sheffield likley hood of getting my car stolen or getting a beating.

Good for getting into town. You can walk there easily enough, and there are loads of buses.

It can be a bit rough though. I wouldn't recommend the pubs on London road at all, esp. on match days. In fact on any day for that matter. Further out in Nether Edge you have pubs like the Brincliffe Oaks, the Broadfield etc and they are good boozers. A general rule for this sort of area is that the further away from town you are the better.

What about the area around the footy ground itself, is that OK, or best avoided?

Yeah... I know people who do live there and like it, but it's a bit rough, and obviously you're gonna have major hassle on match days (parking, going out for a drink etc - I don't think that the footie fans round there are a violent lot in general, but there's always the tiny element of idiots who spoil it for everyone).

Ive lived in 3 different properties on London Rd in the last 3 years.

I have never had a problem with my car or property. The area has changed dramatically over the last year and more students are moving in as rents are reasonable and it has close links to City Centre. Ok the pubs aren't exactly trendy but you do get a warm friendly welcome, and theres a good mixed age group of Students and Locals. Match Days have never been a problem except for drivers as the road does become congested for about 1/2 hour after the match.

Several new restaraunts have opened in the last 12 months bringing New life to the area, investors are spending money here and the area will continue to flourish.
